The 2018 Bellegrave has a wonderful, very pure and enticing bouquet of black cherries, wild strawberry, heather and potpourri scents that blossom in the glass; the oak is very well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannins. This Pomerol is enhanced by a silky-smooth texture and wonderful cohesion on the finish. The 2019 Bellegrave presents a well-defined nose of blackberry, raspberry, orange peel and light earthy scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite juicy at first, yet the structure defines the finish. It will need 4–5 years in the cellar, but there is good potential here.

  • Bellevue 2005 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94)

The first bottle of 2005 Bellevue that I tasted had a maderized, oxidized nose that was off-putting. This note is from a second bottle. This second bottle showed absolutely no trace of oxidation, but did offer plenty of crushed, chalky minerality, notes of plum, blueberry, black raspberry and cherry fruit, a dense purple color, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and fabulous structure, purity and length. It should drink well for at least another 20+ years.

This sensational sleeper of the vintage is far better than the more famous "Bellevue" from St.-Emilion that proved so disappointing in 2006. This blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and a whopping 20% Petit Verdot is a lovely, round, pure, deep ruby/purple-colored effort offering sweet scents of berry fruit, licorice, charcoal, and lead pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, textured, broad, and lush, it could be thought of as a mini-La Lagune. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. Good value.

Dense purple-hued with lots of cassis, gravelly earth, violets, and spicy oak, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a soft, opulent mouthfeel, ripe tannins, and a great finish. • Bellevue Mondotte 2003 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (94+)

Even in a vintage such as 2003 there are wines that are youthful, unevolved and still in need of bottle age. The 2003 Bellevue Mondotte is one of those wines. From a tiny (5 acres) estate owned by Gerard Perse, this blend of 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits youthful aromas of blue and black fruits, chalk dust, lead pencil shavings and Christmas fruitcake. Full, ripe and moderately tannic, it requires another 3-5 years of bottle age and could turn out to be one of the longest-lived wines of the vintage, lasting another 25-30 years.

Black ruby to the rim. Superripe, liqueur-like aromas of inky blackberry and black plum. Very sweet yet very dry, with deep but clenched flavors of black fruits, licorice and violet. A hugely structured, tannic, powerful wine in the style of a dry port. Very impressive but still musclebound.
  • Bellevue Mondotte 2005 (1x300cl)

    Wine Advocate (100)

Made up of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the opaque bluish/purple 2005 from Bellevue-Mondotte offers amazing chocolate espresso notes along with blueberry and blackberry liqueur, some incense and a hint of flowers. Full-bodied and staggeringly concentrated, this blockbuster wine (in a blockbuster vintage) is unreal. Talk about a wine that is beyond belief – this is a great achievement from Chantal and Gérard Perse. Drink it over the next 25-30 years. Sadly, there were only 340 or so cases produced.

This tiny, 5-acre vineyard with nearly 50-year old vines produces only 4,000 bottles from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The broodingly tannic, backward 2006 is remarkably concentrated, pure, and deep. It is an amazing tour de force in winemaking, but like nearly all the Perse 2006s, it is a massively built vin de garde with no compromises meant for serious connoisseurs and long-term cellaring. Forget it for 7-8 years, and drink it over the following 25-30.

  • Bellevue 2019 (3x150cl)

    Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (95)

Joint ownership between Pradel de Lavaux and de Boüard de Laforest families, located on the plateau just above Angélus, with clay-limestone cool soils that are planted to 100% Merlot. This is beautifully deep in colour, and the tension and mouth-watering slate minerality that was evident during En Primeur is still here. Creamy blackberry fruits are brushed with smoked caramel, delivered with purity and poise, this is exceptionally good quality, and so different in character from its sister estate Angélus. Second to last vintage for longtime winemaker Emmanuelle Fulchi, showcasing her skills here.

  • Bellevue 2020 (12x75cl)

    Vinous - Neal Martin (93-95)

The 2020 Bellevue is always so seductive out of barrel and this is no different, armed with glorious, extremely pure black cherries, blueberry, crushed violet and iris scents, the oak seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe tannins, and quite zesty on the midpalate, revealing veins of blood orange. Cohesive on the finish with a veneer of new oak that will require a few years to be fully assimilated. Lovely.

  • Bellevue Mondotte 2004 (24x37.5cl)
    (24x37.5cl) 2004

    Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (89-92)

  • Bellevue Mondotte 2006 (12x75cl)

    Wine Advocate (95+)

This tiny, 5-acre vineyard with nearly 50-year old vines produces only 4,000 bottles from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The broodingly tannic, backward 2006 is remarkably concentrated, pure, and deep. It is an amazing tour de force in winemaking, but like nearly all the Perse 2006s, it is a massively built vin de garde with no compromises meant for serious connoisseurs and long-term cellaring. Forget it for 7-8 years, and drink it over the following 25-30.
