The 1998 La Dominique replicates the fine performance it showed from magnum two weeks earlier. The bouquet offers blackberry, raspberry coulis, sage and truffle on the nose, a touch of mint developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, still fresh and cohesive with black fruit, tobacco, a touch of dark chocolate with a finish you might easily mistake for a Pomerol. There is just a note of dryness and linearity on the finish, at least in the bottle, but larger formats should still give lots of pleasure. Tasted at the vertical tasting at La Dominique.Inc. Decanter (96)
Aromatic and abundant on the nose, smells appealing and heady with floral touches alongside ripe red cherry and blackcurrant reflections. Amazing clarity to the fruit profile on the palate with such minerality driving the wine from start to finish. It has spicy tones, liquorice and toast that give texture and depth with acidity keeping things refreshing. Lovely grace. Tannins are fine and provide plenty of grip in the mouth supporting the fruit with excellent freshness and a wet stone character that puts you in St-Emilion. So charming, confident and characterful - lots to enjoy here. First full vintage with new technical director Yann and consultant Julien Viaud. Tasted twice. The 50th vintage at La Dominique since it was purchased in 1969.Inc. TAX€396.94 -

The 2022 Château La Dominique might be the finest I've tasted from this estate. Located in the northern part of Saint-Emilion, not far from Cheval Blanc as well as the Pomerol border, with plenty of clay in the soils, it's based on 88% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, raised in 50% new barrels. Gorgeous darker currant and black cherry fruit, chocolate, leafy herbs, and a Pomerol-like damp earth character all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, has incredible purity, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeously textured, seamless, balanced Saint-Emilion that already offers pleasure yet has a solid two decades of prime drinking ahead of it. Bravo.Inc. TAX€727.87 -

Sleek ruby red, well judged extraction and use of oak, this is a great quality La Dominique, continuing a run of enjoyable vintages at this property under the team of Gwendeline Lucas and winemaker Yann Monties. Plenty of estate and appellation signature, sweet damson, black cherry, pomegranate and stone fruits, campfire smoke, clove spice and juicy lift, with a lingering, mouthwatering finish. Julien Viaud consultant. Tasted twice. 49hl/h yield. Harvest September 6 to 28, subdividing plots, including leaving the beginning and the ends of the rows for later harvesting. Aged in a mix of amphoras, wine globes, concrete eggs, 50% new oak.Inc. TAX€353.74 -

Solidly made, this deep ruby/plum-colored 2012 (92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc) offers up black cherry and cassis fruit, not a lot of complexity, a generous, juicy mouthful of wine. It is medium-bodied, cleanly made and best drunk over the net 8-10 years.Inc. TAX€363.07 -

This wine is light, pleasant and fruity, but diluted. Drink it up over the near-term. La Fleur has been on a qualitative tier of late, but the 2013 is certainly not in that category.Inc. TAX€361.87 -
Vinous - Antonio Galloni (86-89)
The 2014 La Fleur is deep, dense and authoritative in style. A host of black cherries, smoke, mocha, licorice, violets and plums blossom as this pliant, expressive wine shows off its bold personality. Today the tannins are quite overpowering. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 develops a bit better balance in bottle.Inc. TAX€381.56 -

The 2015 La Fleur is forward, open-knit and quite attractive. Hints of cedar, tobacco, mint and dried flowers add aromatic lift and nuance to a core of dark red plum Merlot fruit in this pretty, midweight Saint-Émilion. The 2015 is not super-complex, but it is impeccably balanced. Drink it over the next decade or so.Inc. TAX€413.47 -
