Of course, the vineyard is near Clos Fourtet, and it seems as though a lot of properties in that band of terroir did incredible jobs in 2009. A big, black/purple-colored wine with notes of blackberries, licorice, graphite, truffle and some subtle, toasty oak, the wine is full-bodied and unctuously textured, with loads of glycerin, fruit, and a massive, velvety textured finish. This superb wine should drink well for 15 or more years. |

Mulled black cherries, liquid violets, spicy wood, and smoky, chocolaty nuances are just some of this wine’s nuances, and it's medium full-bodied, has a pure, layered mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a gorgeous finish. It's one hell of a gorgeous Saint-Emilion that deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will evolve for two decades. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)The reworking of La Clotte under the Vauthier family continues to impress, and this is one to look out for. The terroir was always there, and the precise vineyard work is now fully accentuating the iris and lily floral aromatics, the arresting slate and pumice stone texture, where autumnal fruits are sweet and ripe, cassis pastille and raspberry puree, but they take second place to the fennel, annis, cold ash, rhubarb, lavender. One of my wines to watch in this vintage, demands attention. |

Wine Advocate (93)Another brilliant wine from the talented Jean-Philippe Janoueix, this blend of 68% Merlot and 32% Cabernet France produced a wine that came in just under 15% natural alcohol. Of course, the vineyard is near Clos Fourtet, and it seems as though a lot of properties in that band of terroir did incredible jobs in 2009. A big, black/purple-colored wine with notes of blackberries, licorice, graphite, truffle and some subtle, toasty oak, the wine is full-bodied and unctuously textured, with loads of glycerin, fruit, and a massive, velvety textured finish. This superb wine should drink well for 15 or more years. |

Wine Advocate (88-90)The 2016 La Confession has a tightly wound bouquet with red and black fruit, a touch of pencil box emanating from the Cabernet Franc. It needed a little encouragement from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, quite spicy in the mouth but missing just a little persistence on the finish. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (88-91)The 2017 La Confession is endowed with serious depth and unctuousness. Blueberry jam, menthol, licorice, sweet French oak, crème de cassis, spice and new leather are all amped up in this decidedly flamboyant Saint-Émilion. Although not exactly subtle, the 2017 is quite delicious. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (89)The 2018 La Confession has an intense nose of black cherry, raspberry coulis and a very slight Wellington boot scent, possibly from a bit of reduction. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy, dry tannins. Quite bold and forthright, it has a voluminous finish but comes across just a little raw at the end. A couple of years in bottle will do this no harm, but it takes itself a bit too seriously. |
