Margaux
Margaux, the largest AOC in Médoc, is a significant wine appellation in Bordeaux with 20 Cru Classé properties from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, more than any other Left Bank AOCs. The region is home to the world-renowned Château Margaux, along with other blue-chip wineries like Château Palmer and Château Rauzan Ségla. Margaux's soils have a high gravel content, offering excellent drainage and low nutrient levels compared to Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe. This unique terroir produces refined and elegant wines that are distinct from other regions of Bordeaux.
We are proud to offer a diverse selection of Margaux wines, each with its own unique character and flavor profile. From the rich and powerful Cabernet Sauvignon blends to the silky and smooth Merlot-dominant wines, our Margaux wines are crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. Experience the elegance and refinement of Margaux wines today. Browse our selection and discover why Margaux is considered one of the greatest wine appellations in the world.

Vinous - Neal Martin (88)The 2016 Pouget has a well-defined bouquet with touches of dark chocolate emanating from the new oak, although there seems to be sufficient fruit tucked behind. The medium-bodied palate delivers rather sharp tannins, although the finish seems to lack a bit of body and feels somewhat attenuated at present. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)The 2019 Pouget has quite intense blackberry, briary and crushed iris scents on the nose, the new oak well integrated. The palate is very impressive with firm tannins framing mineral black fruit, touches of pencil lead evident on the structured finish. Blind tastings prove that this Margaux has significantly improved in recent years and this will continue that trend. |

Decanter (96)This balances the generosity of damson and cassis on one side, with elegance and freshness on the other – the hardest thing to get right in a wine. Notes of eucalyptus, liquorice and spice on the finish, this is just delicious. It showcases the succulence of the vintage, which was given a springboard by the work done at the château. The grapes were harvested over four weeks, compared to just three in 2010, which was also an exceptional vintage. However 2015 received a lot more plot-by-plot work and also produced higher yields – 42hl/h compared to 32hl/h in 2010 – giving the fruit more capacity to develop. For me this is clearly the best wine I have ever tasted from the property. Made using 50% new oak barrels. |

The Drinks Business (92-94)Prieuré-Lichine (Margaux; 65% Cabernet Sauvignon; 30% Merlot; 5% Petit Verdot; 13% alcohol; a final yield of 36 hl/ha; tasted at the UGCB press tasting). Once again, this is very archetypally Margaux. Rose petals and dried rose petals, dried herbs and a touch of violet too. Fresh, bright, crunchy red and darker berry fruit; a little blackcurrant leaf too; and just a hint of fresh tobacco leaf. Very expressive aromatically and very refined on the entry and through the dense and compact (for the vintage) mid-palate; sinuous and quite crystalline. Very sapid and juicy, this is excitingly fresh with a lovely sense of balance on the long finish. |
