Jancis Robinson (18.5)Cask sample. Quite a price! Transparent crimson. Very dense nose with more layers than most of the 2018 red burgundies I have tasted so far. Pretty rich with grand cru density. Very well done. Actually the best Clos des Epeneaux I remember tasting en primeur. Long, rich, opulent but all in a convincing structure. Very long in fact. |

Vinous (94)The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte 1er Cru is very floral on the nose with pressed white flowers, honeysuckle and broom, touches of chalk and apricot. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, more density than the La Grande Montagne, impressive weight and salinity that gets the saliva flowing on the finish. Excellent. |

Jancis Robinson (16.5)Deepish cherry red. Smells riper and richer than the Bourgogne and with intense and seductive red fruit, subtly floral and so open. Not especially long but delicious in its fragrant and open Chambolle character. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Marsannay Le Chapitre comprises a blend of 15- and 75-year-old vines. Interestingly, Laurent Fournier remarks that the younger vines performed better due to the superior rootstock. It has a gorgeous bouquet with dark cherries, blackcurrant and light violet aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very velvety in texture with an almost crystalline finish. Just a wonderful Marsannay from Fournier this year. |

Jancis Robinson (17)Star anise, red plum and red cherry on this complex and bright nose. Silky smooth but plentiful tannins frame an expansive core of floral red fruits on the palate. Quite marked smoky, chocolatey oak at this stage but such is the power of fruit that it should knit together well with time. |

Vinous (89-91)The 2018 Volnay "Vendage Sélectionée" is a selection from four parcels below Echards, Pluchots, Jeotte and Grand Champs that is matured in a little new oak. It has a high-toned bouquet of blueberry and raspberry fruit, and little cassis emerges with time in the glass. The palate is sweet and succulent on the entry and very supple in the mouth, delivering black cherries and blueberry toward the finish. Very fine. |

An exceptional vintage, Pierre Girardin Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2019 hails from the revered appellation of Vosne-Romanée in the heart of Burgundy. This exquisite red wine is the esteemed creation of Pierre Girardin, the 13th generation of his family to become a winemaker and a youthful prodigy in the art. Meticulously crafted using 100% Pinot Noir grapes from 40-year-old vines, it undergoes traditional vinification with minimal intervention to retain its unique terroir character. The wine has been aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, lending it a richness and complexity that is truly captivating. On the palate, Pierre Girardin Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru Les Beaux Monts 2019 presents a profound balance of intense red and black fruit aromas, silky tannins, and a subtle hint of spice. Its finish is long and sophisticated, promising excellent ageing potential. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a backward bouquet that demands coaxing, scents of dark berry fruit, leather and sous-bois, with brown spices and sage. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a fine bead of acidity. Quite linear in style, it politely refuses to fan out on the finish. If you are looking for a strict and slightly backward Les Pruliers then this is the place to come. |
