Esteemed brothers, Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, have carefully curated this exquisite Chardonnay in the world-renowned wine region of Burgundy, France. A combination of traditional and progressive winemaking, the brothers approach vineyard management with rigorous attention to detail, utilising organic farming practices. Precision in viticulture follows through to a keen eye in the winery; fermentations take place in 500-litre barrels and fine lees are regularly stirred to add depth and texture. The Bachelet Monnot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussiere 2020 intermingles aromas of white flowers, citrus and butter. Christian and Fabien own an enviable three hectares that extend two-thirds of the way up the slope. This 2020 is almost cozy with concentrated extract at the core. The final blend of this is superb, including both the energy of the young vines and the density of the old. They deliver a lush, spicy fruit with a strong mineral underpinning, a dense texture, firm but supple tannins and an infinitely rewarding finish. The Clos des Epeneaux is produced from a monopole of 5.23ha located at the juncture of Grands Epenots (20%) and Petits Epenots (80%). Antoine Gouges says this is a cooler terroir, like its neighbor Ch nes Quarteaux, because it is flatter and the Combe des Vallerots runs down one edge. Still, the warmth of the vintage comes through in the fruit with succulent blackberries and cassis. The tannins are, again, more old school with some stern grip.
