Layers of black currant fruit and ripe tannins give this wine an elegant character. It is not powerful, but is certainly balanced and full of fruit. It will age well over the medium-term, meaning it will be ready to drink from 2023.

Decanter (93)

The dark and serious fruit here is less exuberant than some and heads towards a more intellectual take on the vintage, possibly due to the concentrating effect of the 25hl/ha yields, a result of mildew and the summer heat. It has great persistency and spice, although the aromatics take a while to reveal themselves. The fresh acidity suggests this is going to age extremely well.

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (94)

Well-placed, sappy and succulent damson, blackberry and cassis fruits. This is graceful and well-balanced, with a lingering, gently spiced finish that stretches out with a satisfyingly juicy feel that has deepened over ageing. First vintage where you find a touch of Carmanère in Kirwan. Technical director Philippe Delfaut, this is an upscore this En Primeur.

Light butterscotch note on the nose and a slightly sweeter wine than the Ramey, Woolsey Road 2018 and Kongsgaard 2019 tasted alongside. Though there is the same green streak as in the Ramey. Classic California Chardonnay.

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)

From east-facing sandstone soils, the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc Block 382 has an intense nose with bell pepper, flint and quite forward pyrazine scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant, slightly reductive, with that pyrazine element politely loitering off stage. Nice weight and density, this is a great Sauvignon Blanc ageing beautifully in bottle.

Wine Advocate (96)

The 2013 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine was matured in 500-liter barrels for around 36 months. It has a beautiful bouquet with honey, quince, pressed yellow flowers and Mirabelle. It has wonderful definition and purity. The palate is very well balanced with a mellifluous texture and beautifully judged acidity as it just sashays along. It fans out on the finish with honey, quince, a touch of rhubarb and ginger, extraordinarily persistent in the mouth. Matthew Day, current winemaker, opined that he thought the 2012 would be the best ever, but the freshness might see it overtaken. This is awesome.
