The 2015 Ferrière is terrific. Black cherry, plum, lavender and spice give the 2015 its super distinctive dark profile. Juicy and generous on the palate, the 2015 has developed into a very nice Margaux that plays on the darker end of the fruit spectrum. The 2015 is dense and powerful, but also impeccably balanced.

The 2018 Ferrière is a powerful, tightly wound wine. Inky dark fruit, gravel, cured meats, graphite, smoke and lavender all run through the 2018. Readers will have to be especially patient, as the 2018 needs time to unwind. Yields are down from an average of 45 hectoliters per hectare to just 26, which no doubt contributes to the wine's natural intensity. The blend is 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, in other words, the Cabernet Sauvignon is especially high, a recent trend here because of climate change. This is the first year in which a portion of the wine was aged in cement and amphora (20%), which according to Claire Lurton allows for lower SO2 in aging.

The 2019 Ferrière is a dense, packed wine, just as it was from barrel. Black fruit, graphite plum, licorice and spice infuse the 2019 with tremendous character. This powerful, brooding Margaux is going to need at least a few years to come together. It sure is alluring in this tasting. Readers will have to be patient, though. The tannins are pretty formidable. Ferrière was impressive en primeur. It is equally compelling today.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is the star here and that gives a superb fresh cassis signature to the fantail finish. Likely to be excellent value

Humbly presenting Fertuna Maremma Messiio 2016, a quintessentially Italian marvel from the renowned Tuscany region. Fertuna, being a most dexterous producer in Maremma, has birthed this sumptuous blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese. This illustrious 2016 vintage is a testament to Fertuna's penchant for blending tradition with innovation, evident in the wine's amendable texture and harmonious complexity.

For Fertuna Maremma Messiio 2016, Fertuna vinifies each variety separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel, ageing the elixir for 18 months in French oak, followed by a rich 6-month slumber in the bottle. The result? Layers of intricate flavours - black cherry, plum, and hints of spicy clove- intricately braided with supple tannins and luscious acidity.

Radiating a dark ruby colour, Fertuna Maremma Messiio 2016 strikes with an exquisite floral nose, smoothly dovetailing into an elegant, full-bodied wine. It is, without a doubt, a tapestry of Tuscan enchantment.

Savour a piece of France with the exquisite Fessardiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur Lie Coup de Foudre 2015. Produced by respected Loire Valley winemakers Maison Fessardiere, lauded for their winemaking ethos emphasising sustainable vineyard management and minimal intervention. This Muscadet epitomises such thoughtfulness.

Crafted in the esteemed Sevre-et-Maine sub-region, the wine embodies the terroir’s unique characteristics. Grapes for this vintage, 100% Melon de Bourgogne, were harvested manually to ensure maximum fruit integrity. Post-harvest, the juice resides on its lees for nine months, developing depth, rounded mouth-feel and subtle, yeasty notes - a characteristic trait of ‘sur Lie’ wines.

Fessardiere Muscadet Sevre et Maine sur Lie Coup de Foudre 2015 is an elegant bright yellow wine. Expressive hints of grapefruit and apple envelope the senses while limestone-induced minerality provides an engaging finish. A sophisticated choice for discerning palates.

I tasted this wine twice over the course of six months, in advance of its commercial release. The 2016 Pàtrimo is quite a wine and needs all the extra bottle time it can get. Indeed, I would suggest putting it at the back of your cellar for another 5 years (at least). It opens to a black and impenetrable appearance. This is an elaborate and beautifully constructed wine that is put together piece by piece like a jigsaw puzzle. When viewed as a whole, all those tiny pieces create a beautiful portrait of a grape as the protagonist and of a region as its context. This full-bodied Merlot has made important strides since I first tasted it. Today, it is more expansive and exuberant. It shows lots of volume and depth with elegance and finesse.

The 2003 is a fascinating Serpico. The wine boasts impressive concentration in its dark, rich fruit. This is an incredibly primary Serpico, with little in the way of tertiary development. Ideally, it is best left alone for another few years, but readers fortunate enough to own this are in for a thrilling ride once the wine opens up a bit. Today it remains tightly coiled but full of potential. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2023.

This stunning 2008 (14% natural alcohol) is composed of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Only 1,300 cases were produced of this dense plum/purple-hued offering. It exhibits a big, sweet nose of blackberries, black currants, licorice, smoke and forest floor. The lovely perfume is followed by a medium to full-bodied wine displaying sweet, velvety tannins as well as an endearing personality. It begs to be consumed now and over the next 10-15 years.
