Vinous (93)The 2004 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is precise and delineated in the glass, with plenty of cut and overall verve. Crushed flowers, candied lemon, white flowers, almonds, mint and anise are all finely-knit in this chiseled, crystalline Champagne. A precise, saline finish rounds things out nicely. The mid-weight, linear style is very much in keeping with the personality of the year. Disgorged July 2014. |

Vinous (94)The 2006 Millésime Grand Cru is sourced from old vines in Ambonnay. Vinification and aging in oak shape the wine to a considerable degree, but Ambonnay has the natural breadth and shoulders to handle the oak. Brioche, spice, vanillin, dried orchard fruit and herbs all develop nicely in the glass. The 2006 is rich and resonant to the core, yet also impeccable in its overall balance. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2015. |

Wine Advocate (100)Francis Egly and I tasted a bottle trial disgorgement of the 2008 Brut Grand Cru Millésime that saw six grams per liter dosage, and the wine surpassed even my high expectations. Wafting from the glass with scents of crisp orchard fruit, Meyer lemon, praline, warm bread and walnuts, it's full-bodied, deep and multi-dimensional, with an immensely layered, concentrated core that cloaks its racy but ripe spine of acidity, abundant but refined structuring dry extract and an incredibly long, precise and sapid finish. It represents the confluence of a great vigneron at the peak of his powers with a historic vintage, and it's unquestionably the finest 2008 Champagne that I've tasted to date. Egly and I agreed that it might be even better with only five grams per liter dosage, but we'll see what he finally decides when he disgorges the wine later this year. What is clear is that the the 2008 Brut Grand Cru Millésime will be worth any and every effort to seek out once it arrives on the market. |

Wine Advocate (96)This bottle of the 2009 Brut Grand Cru Millésime was disgorged in July 2018 after 96 months on the lees, and it's already showing brilliantly, wafting from the glass with complex aromas of smoky red berries, green apple, oyster shell and English walnuts, with a faint hint of fino sherry on the upper register. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, broad and vinous, with searing concentration, a beautifully refined mousse, brisk acids and a long, indeed seemingly endless, finish. This thrilling vintage Champagne exemplifies the intensity and power without the weight that Egly routinely achieves and testifies to his status as one of the region's very best producers. |

Vinous (94)The 2011 Brut Millésime Grand Cru is a very pretty wine, especially within the context of the year. Bright floral notes meld into hints of lemon confit, tangerine oil, dried flowers, sage and pastry. There is terrific freshness to the 2011, although not quite the dimension of the very best years. Even so, this is very clearly one of the finest 2011s readers will come across. I would not push my luck on aging, but there is so much to like and admire here. Francis Egly and his team clearly got the very best out of the year. Disgorged: July, 2020. |

Wine Advocate (99)Broad and powerful, Egly's 2012 Brut Grand Cru Millésime is a serious, vinous Champagne somewhat reminiscent of his brilliant 2002. Delivering complex aromas of pear, honeycomb, orange oil, sweet stone fruits, praline and freshly baked bread, it's full-bodied, deep and muscular, with a multidimensional core of fruit, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. Complex and compelling, readers will have a hard time choosing between the power and texture of 2012 and the quintessentially elegant, seamless 2013. Wine Advocate (100)Francis Egly has produced another profound Champagne with the 2013 Brut Grand Cru Millésime. If the monumental 2008 stands out for its power, structure and intensity, the 2013 is distinguished by its harmony, finesse and completeness; both vintages are very great wines but thus quite different in style. Wafting from the glass with scents of Anjou pear, crisp yellow apple, freshly baked bread, clear honey, iodine and fresh mint, it's full-bodied, ample and pillowy, with a layered, concentrated and effortlessly balanced core of fruit, uniting precision and sensuality to compelling effect. Girdled by racy acids and animated by a delicate pinpoint mousse, it concludes with a long, penetrating finish. Is this the most elegant wine Egly has produced to date? It's certainly among the most compelling that this high quality but initially underrated Champagne vintage has delivered. |

Wine Advocate (97)One of the very finest wines produced in this less heralded vintage is Egly's 2014 Brut Grand Cru Millésime, a strikingly vinous and enveloping Champagne that wafts from the glass with aromas of pear, mirabelle plum, freshly baked bread, almond paste and honeycomb. Full-bodied, satiny and layered, its textural attack segues into a deep, concentrated mid-palate of exceptional purity and cut, concluding with a long, penetrating and mouthwateringly saline finish. As ever, it's a blend of some 70% Pinot Noir with 30% Chardonnay from Ambonnay's greatest terroirs. |

Wine Advocate (97+)From a sunny vintage in which the harvest—commencing relatively late, on September 20—proved ultimately rewarding, Egly’s 2015 Grand Cru Millésime has turned out remarkably elegant. A classic blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from Ambonnay, it was disgorged in October 2024 with a dosage of one gram per liter—significantly lower than the 2008 edition, when Egly needed to temper the pronounced acidity. The wine bursts from the glass with an evocative bouquet of pear, red plum and fresh bread, mingling with vibrant citrus nuances. On the palate, it is deep, full-bodied and layered, showcasing remarkable concentration and a crystalline core of fruit. A bright spine of acidity and abundant chalky extract provide both structure and sensation of freshness, culminating in a persistent, reverberating finish. While this vintage is occasionally marked by subtle vegetal tones—attributable to incomplete ripening under hydric stress—this cuvée exhibits none of those elements. As Francis Egly notes, “It was all about the harvest date, and we certainly didn’t rush to pick the grapes.” Fine-boned and effortlessly graceful, this small release possesses all the attributes necessary for a long evolution. |

Wine Advocate (94)Disgorged in October 2024 with a dosage of one gram per liter, Egly’s NV Rosé Grand Cru is based on the 2019 vintage, complemented by reserve wines from 2018 and 2017. Composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with the majority sourced from Ambonnay, it also incorporates 5% red wine from the same village. The wine bursts from the glass with an expressive bouquet of cranberries, redcurrant, brioche and tangerine zest. Medium-bodied and elegant despite its concentration, it is animated by bright acidity and tension, culminating in a precise, mineral finish. This is a fresh-styled rosé Champagne equally suited for refined apéritif moments or food pairings. |

Jeb Dunnuck (94)A youthful straw color, aged for four years on the lees before disgorgement, the NV Champagne Grand Cru Brut is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and the rest Chardonnay. It comes from the historical vineyards of the family in Bouzy and Verzenay, as well as those located in Ambonnay. I love this wine, with its notes of wet stones and black raspberries. Based on 2020, it has more focus and tension; the mousse is spritely and energetic, with a nice level of clarity and pithy citrus. |

Made from equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Meunier, it’s fresh and inviting, with a delicately fresh and fruity profile on the nose offering notes of raspberries, attractive red fruit, and a nice bit of extract and sapidity. It has a pleasing, fresh, savory element on the finish, with delicate spice in its fine mousse. A very lovely wine that’s drinking beautifully, it can be enjoyed over the next 5-6 years. |

Vinous (94)The NV Vieilles Vignes de Vrigny (Meunier) is one of the best vintages of this cuvée I can remember tasting. Bright and finely cut, the Vieilles Vignes sizzles with tension from start to finish. Dried pear, spice, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper all race out of the glass. Meunier has rarely been so refined, so nuanced. Give this a year or two to unwind. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: September, 2022. |

Vinous (95)This represents the best cask of Braune Kupp Spätlese, and it’s worth noting that in numbering it for registration purposes, Müller anticipated presenting it in his vintage lineup after the corresponding Scharzhofberger. The deeply ripe fresh purple plum and cherry fruit and the dark, ore-like, mysteriously mineral themes of this year’s Braune Kupp Kabinett are perpetuated here. Smoky and savory hints of Latakia tobacco, along with pronounced piquancy of fruit pit, add to the low-toned, brooding personality of a richly textured and resonantly persistent beauty. My experience with mature Müller Rieslings is almost entirely confined to Scharzhofberger bottlings, which are the wines that get more widely collected as well as those he graciously opens for visitors, so I can only wonder aloud whether the amazing 2014 vintage Braune Kupp Rieslings will keep pace over time with their Scharzhofberg counterparts. |

Vinous (95)The scents and flavors here deliciously resemble that of cinnamon- and lemon-zest-tinged, lightly singed purple plum pastry. And as is often the case with Riesling from this site, there is also a high-toned suggestion of plum and poire distillate. The palate displays a striking combination of succulence with textural gloss and animating acidity, while a penetrating, cheek-tugging, mouth-shakingly invigorating finish incorporates delightful and unexpected cooling notes of wintergreen as well as delivering loads of stone and mouthwatering salinity. Drinking this (yes, I swallowed some) left me feeling both renewed and a bit wrung out. |

Vinous (94)Even as we get to Spätlese level in the present collection, there is a delightfully cooling aspect to the 2020 Riesling Wiltinger Braune Kupp Spätlese A.P. #5 Le Gallais, here engendered by pear and honeydew melon laced with brown spices, but also lime, mint and basil. The buoyant midpalate impression is succulent as well as silken, with suggestions of quince preserves and marzipan emphasizing the ripeness and very lightly botrytized nature of the fruit without sacrificing the cooling elements or citric brightness. Somehow the lusciously lingering finish manages to be stimulating yet soothing and caressing. Citrus zest, cinnamon and mace serve for welcome counterpoint, but here is one of those rare instances at this address where I have the impression of slight excess sweetness that needs time to integrate. |

Vinous (96)The NV Extra Brut V.P. Grand Cru (Vieillissement Prolongé) is a rich, textured Champagne that expresses all of the natural intensity gained after having spent eight years on its lees. Baked apple tart, pastry, spice, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes infuse the V.P. with tremendous flavor complexity to fill out its broad, expansive frame. It is a wine of remarkable depth and vinous intensity. In a word: superb. Disgorged: July, 2020. |
