Based on three-year-old and 20-year-old vines (burgundy clones) that were cultivated in a cooler area and picked at 92° to 93° Oechsle, Thomas Studach's 2022 Malanser Chardonnay shows a coolish, clear, fresh and elegant nose with stony/clayish and fruity aromas of ripe yellow fruits and citrus nuances. This is already an excellent expression of the Malans terroir! Dense, juicy and elegant on the slightly yeasty palate, this is a firmly structured Chardonnay with filigreed acidity and delicate tannins. The finish is seriously mineral and structured and represents a deep and layered Malanser that is ripe, elegant and balanced, showing class and style. 13.3% stated alcohol. Diam cork. The sugar has not quite been fully fermented out. Production is two new 350l new barrels and one wine globe of 220l. The bouquet is really attractive, the fruit having eaten the wood. Not so much on the palate, where some oak remains alongside the fresh plums, and you can see the touch of sugar though under 2g/l remain. Drink from 2027-2035.

The generous bouquet features yellow plum, nectarine, candle wax and light vervain tea aromas. The palate is quite phenolic on the entry, well balanced with a waxy texture and resinous in style; ginger and light pepper notes emerge toward the finish.
