The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a good bit darker and richer than the Alexander Valley bottling from the same vintage tasted alongside. Very primary and open-knit, the 2017 is quite a young wine, but it speaks to a restrained approach that works very well. Cassis, pipe tobacco and spiced plum tones are nicely framed by a warm blanket of supportive yet present oak. Full-bodied and plush, the 2017 is in a fine place to drink today but should also put on some complexity with a few more years in the cellar.

2003 is a very strong vintage for Silvio Nardi as both Brunellos are outstanding. The differences between the two bottlings appear to be more about style rather than quality. Nardi's 2003 Brunello di Montalcino is an elegant, finessed wine with remarkable clarity and precision in its ripe fruit. It offers notable persistence on the palate and a long, lingering finish.

Vinous (89)

The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino is soft and delicate in its dried roses, dried cherries, tobacco and spices. This mid-weight, ethereal Brunello offers good length and clarity in a feminine style. Though quite pretty in its layered aromas and flavors, the wine is also rather forward and looks to be an early drinker. Beyond that, it is difficult to argue with the balance and harmony at this stage. This is a strong effort, particularly considering the 10,000 case production. Nardi's Brunello is made from 36 parcels in Casale del Bosco, in the north-west of the region, and Manachiara, which lies in the south-east corner of Montalcino.

There’s a cool-toned freshness to the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino as a whiff of sweet smoke mixes with nuances of plum and sage. It’s gently chewy and long, leaving subtle mineral tones and hints of bitter blackberry.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty wine laced with dried cherries, crushed flowers, licorice and spices. The wine’s mid-weight structure and modest depth both suggest it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.

Vinous (91)

The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino is lovely. Tobacco, dried herbs, cedar, plums and cloves are nicely layered in the glass. Firm yet well-integrated tannins support a mid-weight finish laced with expressive floral notes. In 2008 Nardi didn't feel conditions were ideal to bottle their top two selections, so the Brunello includes juice that would otherwise have gone into the Manachiara and Poggio Doria. Nardi's 2008 should drink well pretty much upon release and for another decade beyond that. Vinifications lasted around 22-23 days. Nardi preferred not to go too long in 2008 because the fear was to over extract given that the maturation of skins and seeds wasn't perfect. The 2008 spent one year in French oak barrels, 25% new followed by one year in cask. All of the parcels were vinified separately but ultimately were blended into the straight Brunello.

Bright red. Perfumed aromas of red cherry, blueberry, bitter chocolate, earth and violet. Not quite as dense as some other 2009 Brunellos, but boasts excellent thrust and energy to its flavors of red fruits, licorice and herbs. The big, sweet tannins arrive quite late. This appears to be a slightly more concentrated than usual entry-level Brunello for Silvio Nardi.

Deep red. Slightly roasted aromas of redcurrant, cherry, coffee and smoky oak. A supple, sweet midweight, with sangiovese-typical notes of cherry, plum, mocha and leather, all nicely framed by firm acidity. Not the last word in complexity but suave and satisfying, with insidious persistence on the ripely tannic finish.

Vinous (91)

There’s a cool-toned freshness to the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino as a whiff of sweet smoke mixes with nuances of plum and sage. The texture is silky smooth, enhanced by juicy acidity that adds vibrancy to the remnants of tart red and black fruit. It’s gently chewy and long, leaving subtle mineral tones and hints of bitter blackberry.

Wine Advocate (88)

Vinous (90)
