Jeb Dunnuck (100)A sensational Pauillac as well as the finest wine from this château since the 2009 (although the 2010 might have something to say about that), the 2022 Château Pontet-Canet sports a deep purple hue as well as a heavenly perfume of crème de cassis, smoke, incense, leafy tobacco, and chocolate. This beauty has sensational purity, a deep, layered, multi-dimensional mouthfeel, flawless balance, and incredible precision and detail in its aromas and flavors. Despite its opulence and power, it has a solid underlying structure, and its tannins are sweet and polished; it has remarkable depth and concentration, and it just does everything right. I wouldn't be surprised to see this firm up slightly over the coming 3-5 years, although I don't expect it to truly shut down. It should have 40, 50, if not 60 years of overall longevity. The 2022 is based on 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 50% new barrels, 35% in amphora, and the rest in once-used oak. |

Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (98-100)A wine to convince you of the quality and ripeness of Cabernet Sauvignon in Pauillac in this 2023 vintage, showcasing superbly supple tannins, great balance, depth and savoury blue and black fruit character, bitter cocoa bean, freshly cut herbs, black tea, fennel, all vivid and with purity of character. There is density here but it is not overt, with heightened raspberry leaf, peony and violet aromatics. Vinified in the newly-completed section of the cellars, in egg-shaped wooden vats and sunken qveri-style clay vats. 50% new oak for ageing, with 35% amphora and 15% one year old barrels. One of the wines of the vintage. New lighter bottle as of the 2022 around 490g, down from 815g in the past, 30 tonnes of CO2 saved just in terms of production. Harvest September 7, one day earlier than 2022, then slow picking through to October 10, later than many in Pauillac - and normal yields of around 40hl/h. |

The Pontet Labrie 2015, from the acclaimed winemakers, Jonathan Maltus OBE, is a quintessential example of fine Bordeaux. Produced in a small vineyard in Saint-Émilion, the meticulous cultivation of Merlot grapes on limestone soil creates a wine of unique character and charm. The hand-harvested grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled wooden vats before ageing in high-quality French oak barrels. A complex bouquet of ripe dark berries, mocha, and sweet spice make this an ideal accompaniment to hearty meats and cheeses. With it's limited production, each bottle of Pontet Labrie 2015 offers an exclusive treat to the discerning wine collector. Owing to the winemaker's commitment to high-quality wine production - Jonathan Maltus was the first British winemaker to be awarded a perfect score of 100 by esteemed American critic, Robert Parker - you can be assured that each sip of Pontet Labrie 2015 captures the excellence of Bordeaux winemaking at its finest. |

A crowning jewel of the Bordeaux region, Pontet Labrie 2016 is one of the most sought after vintages of the Honoré family. This opulent, full-bodied Bordeaux blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc integrates elegance and power, displaying deep plum hues and luxurious layers of red currant, spiced plum and ripe fig interlaced with subtle notes of truffle and espresso. Meticulously crafted in the Saint-Émilion appellation, the wine is aged for 16 months in French oak, imparting a decadent resonance, and expertly balancing structural tannins with an exhilarating acidity. A testament to their commitment to quality and tradition, the Honoré family manually harvests from sustainably farmed vineyards enriched by the diverse soils of clay, limestone and sand. This revered wine, Pontet Labrie 2016, mirrors the estate’s philosophy of respecting the unique character of each vintage, skillfully articulating the intimate dance of terroir and time. An exceptional investment for any serious collector, richly rewarding in taste. |

Wine Advocate (90-92)A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, this biodynamically farmed vineyard (a rarity, but increasing in the Bordeaux viticulture), had tiny yields of 15 hectoliters per hectare. This doesn’t translate into super concentration, but this is certainly an outstanding effort in an extremely difficult vintage. The wine has a dense purple color, and classic creme de cassis, licorice and mocha and espresso roast notes that Pontet-Canet has displayed recently. The wine is medium-bodied, possesses excellent purity, equilibrium and sweet, but noticeable tannin. This is by no means at the level of the great vintages that have been so common of late from this incredible property on the Plateau of Pauillac across from Mouton Rothschild, but it’s certainly one of the vintage’s more noteworthy efforts. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age and drink it over the following 15 or so years. |

Wine Advocate (96)Composed of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Pontet-Canet gives up beautifully fragrant notes of rosehip tea, lilacs, cinnamon stick, cloves, dried leaves and underbrush with a core of kirsch, raspberry coulis, warm plums and red and black currants plus a waft of pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, the palate is refreshing, minerally and wonderfully elegant with a well-played texture of approachable, plush tannins and a long, fragrant finish. Beautiful. Aging took place in 50% new and 15% in second fill barrels and the remaining 35% in amphorae for 16 months, much of the material for which came from the soil at Pontet-Canet! |

From the heart of the Piemonte region, Stefano Porro Langhe Nebbiolo 2021 is a testament of meticulous viticulture and a benchmark for the makers of fine traditional Italian wines. This exquisite red wine, produced by artisanal vintner, Stefano Porro, portrays an elegant harmony between terroir and grape, a true embodiment of Nebbiolo's profound complexity. Nestled in the verdant hills of Barolo, each vine ripens perfectly, soaking up the warm Italian sun and cold alpine winds to give the grapes their characteristic intensity. The remarkable maturation process in oak and cherry wood barrels further amplifies the wine's formidable structure, delivering a robust palate with hues of dark cherry and anise. Stefano Porro Langhe Nebbiolo 2021, an authentic labor of love from the Porro family, achieves a remarkable balance of tannic strength and palate-pleasing suaveness. It's fragrant, rich, and profound – an unforgettable oenological journey that captivates the true essence of Piemonte. |

Tim Atkin MW (98)Has any brand in South Africa achieved quite so much as Porseleinberg in less than a decade? This is the best vintage yet from this steep, brutal, extreme schist-rich site and that's saying a good deal. Big, bold and intense, with incredible, almost feral intensity, incense, tar and black pepper aromas and layers of inky dark fruit. A stunning wine from a stunning site, made by a gem of a winemaker. |

Tim Atkin MW (100)In the right hands, great sites produce great wines. Since its inception in 2010, Porseleinberg has been one of the Cape's most exciting reds, but nothing quite prepared me for the transcendent brilliance of this wine. In uenced by some time spent at Domaine Jamet in Côte Rôtie - particularly their use of a submerged cap during fermentation - Callie Louw has made a stunning Syrah, proving his skills as both a farmer and a winemaker. In 2018, the style has shifted, away from power and grip to something more scented and re ned. Focused, nuanced and very delicately oaked, with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, clove and white pepper spice and textured tannins. Simply world class. 2023-35 |

Sourced from four blocks totally 4.5 hectares, Callie Louw's stunning red is just short of perfection this year, but is still brilliant, confirming the evolution in style of the Jamet-inspired 2018. Tim Atkin MW (98)"We pick the vintage," says Callie Louw, whose 2020 Porseleinberg is the second lightest in alcohol he's ever made at 13.6%. Fermented with 100% whole bunches using the submerged cap technique that transformed the wine in 2018, this is another scented, seamless stunner from Callie Louw. Aged in large foudres and 5% concrete eggs, it's a spicy, sappy, hauntingly elegant Syrah from a brutal site, with kelp, rose petal and fynbos aromas, juicy bramble and red berry fruit, fine tannins and a wonderful sense of energy. 2024-32 |

Tim Atkin MW (99)Given its consistently outstanding quality, it’s easy to forget that the average age of Porseleinberg's 14 hectares of vineyards is only seven years' old. Showing what Callie Louw calls a "little more crunch" in 2021, this is a Syrah with time on its side. Wild herb aromas of sage, oregano and rosemary introduce you to a palate that's dense yet refined, with lots of whole bunch spice and structure, negligible oak influence, detailed, layered tannins, some underlying grip and layers of dark berry fruit. One of the world's great reds from a very special site. 2025-32 |

Tim Atkin MW (99)This remarkable site has established itself as one of the world's great Syrah vineyards in less than a decade. Sourced from four blocks totally 4.5 hectares, Callie Louw's stunning red is just short of perfection this year, but is still brilliant, confirming the evolution in style of the Jamet-inspired 2018. Leafy, spicy, rose petal aromas are supported by pure red berry fruit, detailed tannins and the faintest hint of oak. |
