Moving to the 2018 Grattamacco, this vintage is more classic in its expression and marked with finesse. While the summer was quite hot, it cooled at the end of August, with 60 mm of rain and an abrupt cold snap that slowed maturity, so they had to be quite patient waiting for the grapes to get ripe. The Sangiovese is very important in this vintage for its acidity. In the glass, it pours an almost identical, perhaps slightly more youthful red brick color, and it’s fresh and pretty on the nose, with a detailed perfume of fresh herbs, flowers, cherries, and redcurrants. The palate is refreshing and more vertical but not lacking ripeness, with fine tannins and a spine of refreshing acidity. Its characteristic saltiness frames the wine as it floats off the palate, with a mintiness on the backplate. I personally would be thrilled to drink this wine over the coming 15 or more years.Inc. Reserved layers and depth slowly begin to emerge from the 2019 Grattamacco, so it is going to need time in cellar to open and show itself. As it opens in the glass, it reveals attractive dark mineral earth, kirsch, black pepper spice, and balsamic. It is concentrated and compact at this stage, with savory richness, and it displays full and balanced structure, ripe and present tannins, and notes of cassis, cedar, and pine resin. It reveals rich complexity without ever feeling murky, and its energetic tension takes this wine to the next level. Drink 2025-2050.Inc. TAX€220.39 -

The 2015 Chardonnay is 10 years from harvest, and while in lovely condition, it doesn't appear to have the same level of complexity to the fruit as some of the more recent vintages. I agree with Greywacke's founder, Kevin Judd, that Marlborough Chardonnay is still waiting to be undiscovered. This taut, savory style has lovely richness on the midpalate. (6x75cl) 2015Wine Advocate (92)
The 2015 Chardonnay is 10 years from harvest, and while in lovely condition, it doesn't appear to have the same level of complexity to the fruit as some of the more recent vintages. Here, the wine shows concentration and heft, paired with a spear of citrus acid. It's juicy and long but has more power than detail. 14% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.In Bond€242.00 -
(3x150cl) 2017Vinous (93)
I agree with Greywacke's founder, Kevin Judd, that Marlborough Chardonnay is still waiting to be undiscovered. This taut, savory style has lovely richness on the midpalate. It is not shy and retiring with its flint, smoky bacon and toast characters, derived from a combination of winemaking techniques, both barrels and solids. It is deeply satisfying despite its tense, youthful character. This wine will be released in 2021 and if you put it in your cellar and forget about it for five years, there's no need to worry. In Bond€215.00 -

Aromas of ripe apples, pie crust and hints of flint and graphite. Medium- to full-bodied with plenty of fruit, from apples to oranges, as well as a hint of oak. It’s flavorful and long in the finish. Plenty going on here. Youthful and al dente. Drink or hold. Screw cap.In Bond€385.00 -
