The 2015 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has an immediately seductive, extremely pure bouquet of bright red fruit, strawberry and cranberry; hints of blueberry surface with aeration. The oak is very well integrated, and with continued aeration in the glass, the raspberry component becomes more expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit encased by grippy, slightly firm tannins. This is a very serious Grand Cru, extraordinarily focused and full of tension; the mouth still tingles 60 seconds after it has exited. A consummate expression of a great Burgundy vintage. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2015 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has a fragrant, perfumed bouquet with hints of blueberry, vanilla, violet and crushed strawberry, the mineralité tucked in just underneath, all with superb harmony and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, saturated tannin, crisp acidity, impressive depth with a caressing, gentle finish that belies its power. This is an outstanding 2015 that seems so effortless and yet delivers the horsepower you expect from this propitious vineyard. A quite brilliant wine.

The 2015 Rilly La Montagne, 100% Pinot Noir, is soft, supple and forward. Exotic floral notes, passion fruit, chamomile and spice grace this pretty, open-knit Champagne. My impression is that the 2015 is going to be more rewarding over the near and medium-term rather than over a longer period of time. Dosage is 4.8 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 7, 2019.

I seldom taste the regional appellations on my visits to the Domaine Dugat-Py, so when I saw the 2015 Bourgogne Cuvée Halinard on a Côte d'Or wine list, I made a point of ordering it. This is a lovely wine, wafting from the glass with a classy bouquet of red cherries, cassis, grilled meat and rich soil, subtly framed by a judicious touch of recently used oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of ripe but savory fruit, fine-grained structuring tannins and a long, sapid finish, with juicy balancing acids. The substance that is this domaine's calling card is certainly present, and it will undoubtedly improve with five to ten years of bottle age—at maturity, I suspect it will embarrass many village wines. Interestingly, it's both a touch more savory and a touch more structured than the lovely 2015 Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Claude Dugat that I tasted a few days before.

Alluring nose combines lemon, lime, crushed rock and a sexy leesy element. Dense and thick but with terrific mineral spine and energy to its flavors of citrus fruits and white flowers. Great unmistakable Burgundy funk here. Moreau told me that this wine is fairly low in acidity but its saline minerality nonetheless gives it a penetrating quality. Mounts slowly and stains the palate on the very long aftertaste. Superb wild, musky wine with unexpected precision. Deceptively tasteable early on, as Chevalier-Montrachet can be, but lay this one down.

The 2015 Red Wine EE Tench Vineyard is rich, explosive and powerful in the glass. Cabernet Franc aromatics give the wine an attractive upper register to play off the dark, unctuous fruit. The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Wildfoote Vixen Block is super-refined, silky and expressive. Inky blue and purplish fruit, lavender, spice, licorice and mint are all woven together in this attractive, mid-weight wine. The 2015 is floral and lifted, with tons of Stags Leap character. The 2015 Beychevelle has a fresh blackberry and briary bouquet of impressive delineation and vigor; hints of smoke and pencil shavings emerge with time. The 2015 Colore is a breakthrough wine for Bibi Graetz and his unique approach to winemaking and fruit sourcing. Remember, this renegade Tuscan vintner dedicates much of his intellectual effort to discovering the ancient vines and vineyards he wants to farm. He is like a high level garagiste who does not pretend to limit his fruit selection to vines under his direct ownership. This affords a level of versatility and range that is not common to the many family-owned estates of Italian viticulture that focus their efforts on their own land. Colore is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino from three sites (Lamole, Vincigliata and Siena). The 2013 and 2014 vintages were skipped, and Bibi Graetz has moved forward directly to 2015. I tasted this wine from four bottles: one opened the previous day at lunch, one opened the night before, one opened that morning and one opened just before I poured the sample into may glass. This approach awarded an interesting panoramic view of the wine's evolution, but in truth, it did not change as much as you might think. I mean this in a positive way, because the wine in no way tasted flat or oxidative. Of course, the recently opened bottles showed some nervous and rigid qualities, whereas the bottles that had been open longer were softer, more expressive and more fleshed out. Colore offers dark and determined quality of fruit with layered tones of ripe cherry, dried blackberry, spice and grilled herb. Elegant mineral tones also appear. This is a unique wine with a personality that marries a wild side to a sophisticated one. This is a singular Tuscan red.

Indulge in the elegantly sophisticated intricacies of Billard Pere et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Morichots 2015. This superior white Burgundy, from deep-rooted vines in Burgundy's Montrachet region, is a fine example of the exquisite craftsmanship of Billard Pere et Fils. Brightly defined, with pronounced minerality and ripe fruit aromas, this wine eloquently whispers its terroir. Traditional vinification methods, meticulous ageing in oak barrels and an unwavering dedication to quality yield a perfectly balanced, complex character.

Delight in the crisp apple and pear notes, underscored by nuanced hints of toasty oak and baking spices, effortlessly weaving a refined tapestry on the palate. Precise acidity gracefully signposts a lengthy finish, cementing the Billard Pere et Fils Chassagne-Montrachet Morichots 2015 as a wine of profound sophistication and enduring appeal. An ideal accompaniment to poultry or seafood, yet strikingly enjoyable on its own, this wine satiates both the novice sipper and the seasoned oenophile.

(made in two barrels and the rest stainless steel): Bright light-medium yellow. Peach and spice aromas are complicated by saline sea spray and iodine. Thick but not at all heavy; a step up from the other 2015s here in urgent fruit and savory minerality. This seamless wine boasts real energy and bulletproof material. The spicy, saline, rising finish saturates the palate. The yield here was just 21 hectoliters per hectare, according to Bailly. This wine was quite dry and strict last year but has turned out well, even if it will require patience.

Wine Advocate (97+)

The Biondi-Santi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino exudes dark, velvety fruit and concentration while maintaining the signature elegance, suppleness and lithe personalty that distinguishes the iconic Il Greppo estate. I found this new release to be quite distinctive and exquisitely beautiful, setting it apart from many of the past vintages we are most familiar with. This 2015 edition is dark, exuberant and bold, but precise, focused and sharp as well. It will live for years in your cellar, but tasted now in its infancy, the wine shows blackberry, dried cherry, plum and dark cassis. Those dark fruit tones segue to a rich presentation of tar, spice, earth, tobacco and sweet balsam herb. The bouquet offers seamless and smooth transitions. This warm and sunny growing season favored richness and phenolic weight. Wines from Biondi-Santi are made for the long haul, and the fresh acidity that characterizes this estate is the principle reason why. However, I'd argue that this wine from 2015 will evolve over the years not only thanks to the freshness but more so thanks to the important structure of this solid and profound wine.

Wine Advocate (98+)

The Biondi-Santi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is initially a reticent wine and one that does not immediately subscribe to the overstated abundance and exuberance of the vintage. Give it time. I wrote this review after several tastings over several days so I could ensure a more accurate account of the wine's elegant reveal. Contemplative and exceedingly nuanced in personality, with wild berry, underbrush, ferrous earth and candied orange peel, this has everything to look forward to in terms of its future evolution in the bottle. It displays a pretty ruby color that borders on garnet and polished copper. A silky, mid-weight palate is accented by beautifully managed and silky tannins (this aspect of the mouthfeel is extraordinary), bright freshness and long-lasting fruit momentum. The alcohol is a bit more powerful in this release (at 14.5%), but the effect is supple and smooth nonetheless. I tasted bottle number 256.

Jean-Yves Bizot's 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Jachées is a striking wine, and this bottle's explosive aromas of Indian spices, red berries, violets and cinnamon did much to conceal the fact that it's actually quite closed on the palate. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, this Vosne-Romanée is framed by powdery tannins and concludes with a pungently perfumed finish, but it will need a few more years to reveal the full extent of its textural plenitude.

From a warm vintage with an early harvest, this is a well-balanced Rioja with considerable complexity. There's a ripe plum character to the black fruit aromas, along with warm tobacco hints and earthy, undergrowth notes. Bollinger's 2015 Brut Grand Année is an intriguing wine in that is clearly reflects the decision to pick on the later side in order to avoid vegetal notes derived from the mismatch of alcoholic and phenolic ripeness. "Balance was hard to achieve in 2015," Chef de Cave Dennis Bunner notes. "At 10% in sugar, the fruit was simply not ripe. We had to wait to reach the optimal window of ripeness." Bunner also opted to increase the Chardonnay, so the blend is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, as opposed to the more typical 70/30 blend, with more Verzenay than Aÿ in the Pinots. Dried citrus peel, sage, menthol, sage, tangerine peel and spice build with some coaxing. Light tropical overtones develop with aeration. There's real density and textural richness here. This will be a fascinating vintage to follow. Stylistically, it is the complete opposite from the much more linear 2014 that precedes it. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged: May 2023.

Light straw-yellow. Deep, soil-inflected aromas and flavors of white stone fruits, clove, hazelnut, marzipan, white pepper, smoke and minerals, with a note of orange bitters emerging after extended aeration. Wonderfully rich, silky and mouthfilling but not at all heavy, showing considerable baby fat for young Corton-Charlemagne but with a powerful stony underpinning. Seriously rich, ageworthy wine with a touch of dusty tannins and palate-saturating breadth and salty length. This wine is seriously satisfying right now but should undergo dramatic transformation over the years as it burns off some of its baby fat, which it started to do with 72 hours in the recorked bottle. A star of the vintage, showing no sign of heat or blurriness and communicating a very strong if fully ripe impression of terroir.

The 2015 Red Wine EE Tench Vineyard is rich, explosive and powerful in the glass. Cabernet Franc aromatics give the wine an attractive upper register to play off the dark, unctuous fruit. Dark cherry, blackberry, chocolate and espresso all rush forward. The EE has terrific tension for such a big, plush wine. Lifted Franc notes reappear on the super-expressive finish.

I never thought I would use the word 'restrained' to describe a Russell Bevan wine, that is exactly what this is.

The 2015 Beychevelle has a fresh blackberry and briary bouquet of impressive delineation and vigor; hints of smoke and pencil shavings emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, wonderful tension and an almost effervescent, nervous finish that leaves a tongue-tingling dash of black pepper in its wake. So much potential here. As I have written before, this is one of Philippe Blanc's great Beychevelles. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

A stunning wine. This is the best Testamatta ever made. Fascinating aromas of red fruits, tea, bark and wet soil as well as fresh leather. Full body, silky tannins and a juicy finish. I love the tension and texture of this great red. So gorgeous to taste now but better in 2021.

Like a perfectly stretched tapestry, this shows a taut precision to the winemaking, with admirable balance. Polished black fruit, spice and chocolate notes show good persistence. A sense of freshness and fine tannins with juicy grip on the finish; this has life ahead of it.
