  • Arnoux-Lachaux Bourgogne Pinot Fin 2018 (6x75cl)

    Jancis Robinson (16.5)

A blend of seven plots in Chambolle, Vosne and Nuits-St-Georges – about half of the fruit is from Chambolle. 100% whole bunch. 34 hl/ha (lower than in 2017). 10,000 bottles produced (8,500 in 2019). Lightish cherry red. Scented nose with lively fruit but savoury rather than sweet. Succulent, supple and with generous and fresh fruit. Gentle and persistent. Mouth-watering. Really polished but natural (in the general sense of the word, ie authentic) at the same time. Seems effortless. You could drink this now though it does have a fine backbone and a refreshing dry texture on the finish.

    Vinous (90-92)

Using 70% whole bunch to compare with the domaine example, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is defined by those stems on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and comes across more peppery than the domaine version, quite defined but maybe without the sensuality of the domaine.

  • Arnoux-Lachaux Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru 2018 (1x75cl)

    Vinous (93-95)

The 2018 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru was cropped at just 18hl/ha due to the way Charles Lachaux cane-pruned the vines after the hail-damaged 2017 vintage. The broody nose reveals hints of dark chocolate infusing the brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy red fruit. Structured and foursquare, conservative in some ways, with a strong marine influence developing toward the fresh finish. It will need several years in bottle, but there is good potential here.

A little more savoury than the Bourgogne and a very slight stemmy herbal note but it's subtle. A little bit peppery. More tension here than in the Bourgogne, a little lighter in obvious fruit and a little more tannic but barely so. Super-fresh. Dry and lingering. So elegant.
