Sourced entirely from the Barossa and aged for 16 months in French oak hogsheads (83% new), this is chock full of primary black fruit on the nose with a lovely floral scent of iris. The fruit on the palate has bright raspberry and blackberry jam as well as being richly laden with tar, vanilla, mocha, leather, fruitcake and tobacco. Lots of charm here with suave, supple tannins and vivid acidty giving cut, weave and bounce to the wine. Altogether very charming and extremely convincing. Will need time to come round. |

Decanter (96)Once again, this displays the hallmark RWT style of generosity, pleasure and sheer Shiraz fleshiness. Sourced entirely from the Barossa and aged for 16 months in French oak hogsheads (83% new), this is chock full of primary black fruit on the nose with a lovely floral scent of iris. The fruit on the palate has bright raspberry and blackberry jam as well as being richly laden with tar, vanilla, mocha, leather, fruitcake and tobacco. Lots of charm here with suave, supple tannins and vivid acidty giving cut, weave and bounce to the wine. Altogether very charming and extremely convincing. Will need time to come round. |

Thrilling notes of black raspberries, crème de cassis, toasted spice, mint, and espresso all emerge from this deep, rich, powerful Shiraz. With massive concentration, it still glides across the palate with no sensation of heaviness or rusticity, building, perfectly ripe tannins, and incredible opulence and intensity. It shows more grilled meat notes with time in the glass and is a monumental Barossa Shiraz that flirts with perfection. |

It's full-bodied and plush without being unstructured in any way, with a lingering, complex finish and the concentration to age two decades or more. |

Wine Advocate (98)The 2020 RWT Shiraz Bin 798 is a powerhouse of bloody fruit and firm tannin. It veritably explodes from the blocks, showing plum skin, raspberry leaf, blackberry, mulberry, lashings of salted licorice and rendered lamb fat. I am coming to love (in a big and serious way) the Barossa Shiraz' bottlings from 2020—the year was significantly down in yields, warm and dry, and responsible for wines of muscle, density and gravitas. So, too, for this wine. Excellent. |

Vinous (96)This 2022 Shiraz RWT Bin 798 from Barossa Valley has decadent levels of flavors, wound up in a deep pool of muscular tannins that promise a very long life. Bold and expressive, it almost fills the room with tarry, meaty, bloody aromas and a powerful undertow of French oak. A tighter palate follows, with blackberry and blueberry flavors building slowly through a rich, full-flavored finish. Far from ready to drink now, but will reward the (very) patient. |
