Carlo Ferrini's signature touch adds an extra layer of dark fruit concentration and sweet spice. Indeed, the wine ages in 500- and 700-liter barrels for 18 months. Fruit comes from a 1.9-hectare site with 50- to 80-year-old plants at 560 to 850 meters in elevation on the north side of Etna. The tannins are expertly managed, and although you feel that firm structure, there is enough dark fruit to smooth it all out, giving the wine depth and power. |

Wild strawberry mingles with cranberry and dried orange peel notes that gain intensity in the glass, but not quite the precision. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, citrus fresh in the mouth with touches of blood orange. Perhaps the true quality of this wine is unveiled because it is far superior than the recalcitrant nose. There is a touch of bitterness on the finish, but that merely lends this Chambertin tension. Extraordinarily long and vital, this was one of the huge surprises of the blind tasting. |

Very lithe and fresh, leading to a delineated finish that ranks alongside many others I have tasted. This is a superb Chambertin that will age with style. |

This is really quite refined for the appellation as the mid-palate is pure silk which disguises somewhat the underlying muscularity of the big-bodied flavors that are blessed with both excellent concentration as well as plenty of palate coating dry extract. This is a powerful but balanced effort that offers genuinely outstanding length and is unapologetically built to age. |
