The 2013 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a well-defined, very backward nose that clearly needs three or four years to open up. It is broody–the kind of aromatics that stalk you before inviting you in. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, brittle tannin. Here we find the energy of the vintage with a fine line of acidity and hints of blood orange merging with the red berry fruit toward the finish that fans out nicely. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, filigreed tannins. There is an unerring symmetry about this Chambertin, which is one of the best you will find in 2019.
