The 2021 La Haye has a perfumed, graphite-tinged bouquet, quite Pauillac in style and nicely proportioned. Vivid purple. Intense dark berry compote, anise and Indian spice scents show excellent power and depth. Moving to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape from bottle, the 2016 vintage was described as having the power of 2010 and similar to yet fresher than 2007. The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape offers a great bouquet of black raspberries, tapenade, crushed violets, and spring flowers, and shares lots of similarities to the Chaupin cuvée (and it’s less expensive!). Full-bodied, incredibly elegant and seamless, it might be the finest traditional cuvée ever produced from this estate.Inc. TAX€627.07 -

(1x75cl) 2010Wine Advocate (98)
The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Chaupin rivals the 2007 Chaupin (to date the best Chaupin I have yet tasted). Made from 100% Grenache (3/4 destemmed), it boasts a dense black/purple color as well as unbelievable notes of raspberries, black cherries, licorice, truffles, camphor, forest floor and garrigue. This wine is stunningly concentrated, incredibly noble, precise and expansive on the palate with mouth-saturating intensity, glycerin and extract. It is an amazing example of impeccably grown old vine Grenache translated into a natural yet full-throttle red.Inc. TAX€153.56 -
Wine Advocate (93)
One of the wines of the vintage is the Grenache-dominated 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Chaupin. Coming mostly from a cool terroir in the northeast corner of the appellation (just to the east of Beaucastel), this wine is vinified with a small portion of stems and aged mostly in foudre (one-third is in demi-muids). It has gorgeous Grenache flair in its black raspberry, garrigue, spring flower and licorice scented bouquet. This gives way to a medium to full-bodied, elegant, and layered 2013 that has more texture and sweet fruit than just about every other wine in the vintage. I'd drink it anytime over the coming 4-5 years, but it will have 10-15 years of overall longevity.Inc. TAX€663.07 -

Bottled end of February/early in March, the 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin is incredible stuff, and while I suspect it’s the best vintage to date, it’s going to be great comparing it to bottles of the 2005, 2007, 2010, and 2015 over the coming 15+ years. This beauty offers a thrilling blend of kirsch, blackberries, smoked earth, graphite, and licorice on the nose. I was blown away by the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvee Chaupin, a 100% Grenache release that comes almost exclusively from the Chaupin lieu-dit in the northern part of the appellation. It's never as inky-hued or powerful as the Vieilles Vignes but always screams Grenache with its sexy, ripe, seamless, and remarkably elegant style. The 2020 offers a translucent ruby/purple hue as well as incredible aromatics of blackberries, black raspberries, peppery garrigue, herbes de Provence, and flowers, and it opens up nicely with time in the glass. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, it has silky tannins, no hard edges, and a great finish. I finished my note with "a Grenache lover's dream." This is up with the finest vintages produced and will evolve for 15+ years.Inc. TAX€679.36 -

The normal blend of the three parcels and all Grenache from the Chapouin lieu-dit that was fermented with a 30% whole clusters, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Chaupin reveals a medium ruby hue to go with gorgeous notes of framboise, sappy garrigue, spring flowers, and crushed stone. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, concentrated Chaupin offering terrific overall balance, beautiful tannic structure, and a great finish. As always, this cuvée shines for its incredible finesse and elegance. Drink bottles over the coming 10-15 years. It reminds me slightly of the 2011.Inc. TAX€952.96 -
Wine Advocate (100)
Another insanely good wine that’s a legend in the making is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape XXL, which is almost all Grenache (there’s a splash of Mourvèdre) that spent three years in foudre and barrels before being bottled. Offering a port-like bouquet of blackberry jam, beef blood, black licorice and roasted herbs, it hits the palate with an incredible amount of fruit and texture yet always stays balanced, fresh and lively, with a finish that just won’t quit. This decadent, heady, layered and just about over the top beauty won’t be for everyone (and I’ve had bottles state side that showed more stewed and evolved characteristics), but it’s a singular, heavenly bottle of wine.Inc. I finished my note with "a Grenache lover's dream." This is up with the finest vintages produced and will evolve for 15+ years. In Bond€517.00 -

It reminds me slightly of the 2011.In Bond€745.00 -

This decadent, heady, layered and just about over the top beauty won’t be for everyone (and I’ve had bottles state side that showed more stewed and evolved characteristics), but it’s a singular, heavenly bottle of wine.In Bond€4,855.00
