Mid red purple. The sample is not quite as fresh (sample issue, not the wine itself). But the seamless quality of pinot planted in this vineyard manages to show through anyway. There is a volume of dark red berry fruit, a charm through the middle of the palate, much less evident structure though it is clearly there, and a fine long finish. (Antonin has also made a very small volume from Clos St-Jean by the pedicel method, leaving in the small bits of stem but removing the core. This will probably not be sold commercially, but is very interesting. It displays a pinker lift to the ruby colour, and a beautifully lifted nose, bringing out the rose petals, adding a perception of enhanced freshness, multi-layered and still with all the grace.) I had the chance to revisit the 2011 Grandes Places and, as was the case last year, it's showing a surprisingly open-knit character, with sappy dark fruit and floral qualities and no rough edges. Saturated ruby. Explosively perfumed array of dark berry, floral and spicy scents, with notes of cracked pepper and minerals adding urgency. Sweeter and more inviting than it was from barrel, offering lively black raspberry and kirsch flavors and a strong mineral underpinning. Tannins sneak in on the finish but are hidden by the energetic fruit. The finish is spicy, sweet and very persistent. You could drink this soon, without guilt.In Bond€1,400.00 -

Deep violet color. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit aromas are enlivened by peppery spices and fresh flowers. Dense and palate-coating, offering concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors that stretch out and gain vivacity with air. Dusty tannins give grip to a penetrating, long finish that features suave floral pastille and berry liqueur qualities. I had the chance to revisit the 2011 Grandes Places and, as was the case last year, it's showing a surprisingly open-knit character, with sappy dark fruit and floral qualities and no rough edges. While it has the depth to suggest that up to a decade of patience would be rewarded, there's plenty going on to grab one's attention now as well.In Bond€132.00
