Telmo Rodriguez Pegaso 2020s
Now ranked amongst the best wine producers in Spain, Telmo Rodríguez is dedicated and determined to express vineyard terroir in under-presented appellations. His Burgundian approach to Spanish winemaking has garnered much critical acclaim, particularly from the likes of the Wine Advocate's Luis Gutiérrez.
Today, we are pleased to present two releases from his Pegaso project in Gredos, the mountainous region near Madrid made famous by Comando G that is flooded with old Garnacha vines. Established back in 1999 in Cebreros, winemaker Marc Isart and vineyard manager Aitor Fernández have been doing stellar work in recent years in creating wines that rival Telmo's and Pablo Eguzkiza's more established wines of Rioja in quality, despite their value.

There is a lot of finesse in the 2020 Pegaso Barrancos de Pizarra, with a fine texture and almost powdery, elegant tannins, and it transmits a sensation of harmony. It's perfumed and floral and has more red than black fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, precise, clean, tasty and long. It's ripe, but the alcohol (15%) is completely unnoticeable. In fact, it feels less ripe than the Granito from 2020 that I tasted next to it. 4,104 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.Inc. TAX€293.74
