Cru Exclusive: M. Chapoutier Museum Release
In his book “Wines of the Rhône Valley”, Robert Parker wrote that he drank “more Châteauneuf du Pape than any other type of wine,” and that “visitors to my private cellar can attest to the fact that my stock of Châteauneuf du Pape is proportional to my voracious taste for the appellation’s finest wines”. Today we are pleased to share Parker’s passion for Châteauneuf du Pape through an exclusive museum release of ex-château magnums of the M. Chapoutier Châteauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac.
It is unthinkable to talk about the Rhône Valley without mentioning M. Chapoutier. An iconic stalwart of the Northern Rhône with roots tracing as far back as 1808, M. Chapoutier is perhaps most well known for its single-vineyard wines from Hermitage and, thanks to the adventurous and pioneering spirit of the great Michel Chapoutier, is equally well-established not just in appellations all over the Rhône Valley, but across France and even as far as Australia!
The Châteauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac perfectly demonstrates how Chapoutier is capable of applying its wealth of expertise to draw nothing short of excellence from a new terroir. Made with 100% Grenache, the Barbe Rac is produced from fruit from a single vineyard where vines were planted in 1901 to a staggering vine density of 11,000 vines per hectare! The 1989 vintage, the first-ever vintage to be reviewed by Wine Advocate, earned a stunning 94 points from Robert Parker, who called it “a sensational expression of Châteauneufdu Pape”. In today’s offer, we bring you single magnums from vintages 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995 1996 and 2009 that come with perfect provenance.
