I was blown away by the prospective blend I tasted of the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. Already delicious, it combines raspberries and cherries with vanilla cream and baking spices. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it shows great length and freshness, ending in hints of garrigue and licorice.Inc. TAX€332.14

This is an estate with real pedigree. It dates back to early 1826, when the Jaume family first planted vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Since 2008, it has been run by its sixth generation, Sebastien and Christophe Jaume. The brothers are continuing the success of former winemaker, Alain Jaume, making this "one of the reference point producers for relatively modern styled Châteauneuf du Papes" Jeb Dunnuck.
Grand Veneur has been a leader in Châteauneuf. Since the 1980s, with only 4.6 hectares then, Alain Jaume had already started aging some grape varieties in new French oak barrels, a technique which is commonplace today.
The estate has long been praised for its long cellaring potential and consistent quality. Joe Czerwinski from Wine Advocate has further reaffirmed the regional significance of Grand Veneur by calling it "one of the Southern Rhône's most important addresses for wine lovers".
Grand Veneur Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre and approx. 20% of Syrah. Included in the wine are grapes from 2 of the oldest plots of estate. These vineyards are tended organically and produce low yield, highly concentrated wine, thanks to their deep root system. Production in 2017 was about 420 cases only! While the production in 2018 is still not specified yet this is a super scarce wine. The quality of the 2018 is reflected in the 96 - 98 points score from Wine Advocate:
"I was blown away by the prospective blend I tasted of the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. Already delicious, it combines raspberries and cherries with vanilla cream and baking spices." Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Origines is not to be missed as well. With a similar blend to the Vielles Vignes, this comes from a single parcel from the northern part of the village. The plateau vineyard has a high quantity of red clay mixed with rocks – producing rich and sumptuous Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Scoring 92-94 points from Wine Advocate, Les Origines is "open and fruit-forward, with hints of garrigue accenting pomegranate and cherry notes. Full-bodied and silky".
Both these wines are Châteauneuf-du-Pape of the highest quality, from an important and historic estate. These are both fabulous recommendation.
