Appreciation of Cabernet Franc from the Loire Valley has grown massively in recent years as consumer palettes have shifted away from the big fruity reds that used to dominate the fine wine world. Lacking the price tags of historically in-demand wines, the finest Chinons have now become some of the "best-value reds in the world" (Vinous).

From "one of the most important estates in Chinon" (Vinous) Grosbois Chinon Cloture 2018 is undoubtedly one of these. The Cloture comes from a single vineyard with 120+ year old vines. Given 94 points by Vinous in their recent 'Big Love for Loire' report, this is the third highest scoring red from the entire Loire Valley in 2018.

This historic estate has been family-owned for 100 years. Certified organic since 2008 and certified bio-dynamic since 2016, the brother team of Nicolas and Sylvain are masters of low intervention sustainable winemaking.

Nicolas arrived at the family estate in 2008, after spending 10 years as a 'flying winemaker' and having spent time in New Zealand, Australia, Chile and Oregon. Sylvain similarly gained experience elsewhere, spending time in Burgundy with Domaine Drouhin and internationally in Chile, Oregon and Australia.

After his time abroad, Nicolas strongly believes in not vinifying and ageing in wood, choosing concrete instead to preserve the freshness and vitality. No old oak has been used since 2015. This is the truest expression of unadulterated Cabernet Franc.
