A brightly jeweled ruby hue, the 2021 Barbaresco is super-expressive, with loads of wild raspberries that leap from the glass along with notes of strawberries, pressed roses, fresh orange, and violet. As it opens, it evens picks up some spice box, cigar incense, and cherry notes. Pouring a bright ruby/magenta color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Renina is generous with fruity aromas of blackberries, red cherries, crushed flowers, polished cedar, and mossy forest earth. Approachable and elegant, the palate is ripe with medium to full-bodied richness, plush tannins, and good length, and it retains crisp, refreshing acidity, with a nice, elegant saltiness. Impeccably balanced with that proverbial Gaja Madias Touch that always denotes an extra level of creaminess or fruit concentration that fits lock and key with the wine's acidity and velvety tannic structure, this is a truly gorgeous wine. The Pieve Santa Restituta 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Rennina represents a blend of fruit from sites of various soil compositions and exposures. In this classic vintage, you can count on a wine that is firmly structured and important in terms of mouthfeel, but it also yields to delicate and softer nuances of wild rose, toasted cumin seed, campfire ash and grilled rosemary. The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty wine laced with dried cherries, crushed flowers, licorice and spices. The wine’s mid-weight structure and modest depth both suggest it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.Inc. TAX€208.72 -

The Tenute Silvio Nardi 2016 Brunello di Montalcino makes a big impact in the glass thanks to its dark color saturation and the pretty intensity of its aromas that range from dark fruit and plum to soft potting soil and grilled herb. You get beautiful balance here, even more so when you allow the bottle to breathe for a few hours. A twofold delivery of freshness and tannic backbone gives the wine the DNA required to hold 10 years or more. Having had the pleasure of touring the vineyards, I can firmly state that Tenute Silvio Nardi occupies one of the most distinctive areas of the Montalcino appellation, tucked into the northern side of the area, at high altitude, hidden by thick forests and cooled by an almost blueish quality of light. The soils are dark and mineral-rich with pockets of schists and shale. A unique position such as this does not guarantee consistent results every year, and I can imagine how vulnerable this area could be in the most extreme weather, especially given the later harvest. Indeed, my feeling is that vintage variation is experienced with greater intensity here. But when presented with a classic vintage such as 2016, all those elements fall magically in place to produce wines of extreme elegance and character. Tenute Silvio Nardi has three new releases from 2016: a classic Brunello and two single-vineyard expressions.Inc. TAX€166.69 -

Although it takes a little while to build momentum, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino reveals fine lines and a subdued character. The wine is a little underplayed in this vintage especially considering the greater power and heft we got with the iconic 2010 vintage. Pouring a dark red color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is sappy and ripe with aromas of baked blackberries, lavender, balsamic herbs, chewing tobacco, and forest floor. A lush, full-bodied wine with velvety tannins, a coating, rich texture, a well-balanced feel, and polished oak spice through the finish, it offers good length and should continue to improve over the coming 10-12 years. In Bond€107.00 -

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty wine laced with dried cherries, crushed flowers, licorice and spices. The wine’s mid-weight structure and modest depth both suggest it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.In Bond€166.00 -

Tenute Silvio Nardi has three new releases from 2016: a classic Brunello and two single-vineyard expressions. In Bond€131.00 -

Deep red. Enticing aromas of perfumed red cherry, sweet spices and aromatic woods. Clean, fresh and vibrant, featuring juicy red cherry and mineral flourishes on the long, juicy, bright finish. Outstanding classic Brunello that has the high acidity and lithe frame of the vintage but also more meat than most. Lovely wine and the best classic Brunello from Nardi in years. In Bond€175.00 -

Although it takes a little while to build momentum, the 2011 Brunello di Montalcino reveals fine lines and a subdued character. The wine is a little underplayed in this vintage especially considering the greater power and heft we got with the iconic 2010 vintage. This expression of Sangiovese opens to a luminous ruby color and light aromas of delicate wild berry, blue flower and tilled earth. The mouthfeel shows medium density and silky tannins. In Bond€310.00 -

Full of tension and energy, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine that does honor to the magnificent 2010 vintage. The fruit nuances are layered and plentiful with loads of cherry, cassis and blackberry to keep your interest. The tannins are smooth and ripe with sweet overtones. The wine offers good complexity and definition. Drink this Brunello after 2017.In Bond€234.00
