Italy
Italy, known as the "Land of Wine," is celebrated for its exquisite range of fine wines. With a winemaking history dating back thousands of years and a diverse array of terroirs, Italy offers a remarkable collection of wines that delight the senses and captivate wine enthusiasts worldwide.
In Tuscany, famous vineyards like Antinori, Marchesi di Frescobaldi, and Tenuta San Guido have become synonymous with excellence. Wines such as Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, and Super Tuscans like Sassicaia and Tignanello showcase the region's mastery in crafting complex, age-worthy, and expressive wines. Piedmont is home to legendary vineyards like Gaja, Vietti, and Marchesi di Barolo. The region's iconic wines, Barolo and Barbaresco, crafted from the Nebbiolo grape, epitomize power, elegance, and longevity. These wines boast flavors of red fruit, floral notes, earthy undertones, and firm tannins. Veneto, renowned for its sparkling Prosecco wines, is also famous for Amarone della Valpolicella. Vineyards like Allegrini and Quintarelli produce exceptional Amarone wines with concentrated flavors of dark fruit, spices, and a velvety texture. Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, offers a different yet captivating expression of Italian wines. Vineyards like Planeta, Donnafugata, and Tasca d'Almerita craft remarkable wines from indigenous grape varieties such as Nero d'Avola and Nerello Mascalese. These wines exhibit intense fruit flavors, vibrant acidity, and a unique volcanic minerality.
These are just a few examples of the renowned vineyards and wines Italy has to offer. From the northern regions of Piedmont and Veneto to the central regions of Tuscany and Umbria, and down to the southern regions of Sicily and Puglia, Italy's wine regions are a treasure trove of exceptional wines. Experience the allure of Italian wines and immerse yourself in the rich history, diverse terroirs, and passionate winemaking that define the Italian wine scene. Whether you're sipping a prestigious Barolo, a refined Brunello di Montalcino, a refreshing Prosecco, or a bold Nero d'Avola, Italian wines promise a journey of flavors and a celebration of Italy's winemaking heritage.

Wine Advocate (97)The 2006 Harlequin is one of the most exciting, viscerally thrilling wines I have tasted in a while. Sweet aromas of roasted espresso beans lead to wild cherries, mint, licorice, blackberry jam and star anise as this opulent, full-throttle wine shows off its inimitable class and pedigree. Today the oak remains a touch intrusive, particularly in the tannins, but there appears to be more than enough density in the fruit to provide balance. The finish is eternal. This is a profound effort from Celestino Gaspari and his team. Harlequin is made from as many as fifteen different varieties. The grapes go through a brief drying process prior to being vinified. The wine is then racked into French oak, where it spends two full years with no subsequent rackings. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026. |

Wine Advocate (91)The Castello della Sala 2024 Chardonnay Bramìto della Sala shows hints of bergamot tea and chamomile. The wine is primary and fresh, with 40% of the fruit fermented in oak (with malolactic fermentation) and the rest in stainless steel. There is a citrusy note that adds verticality and brightness, and the wine has a hint of reduction that underlines the purity of its fruit. This pretty expression is full of tension and energy. |

Jeb Dunnuck (96+)The dark red 2021 Messorio has similar depth and complexity, with aromas of blackberries, red plum, turned soils and savory herbs. The palate is rich and layered as well, with a plush richness in its chalkiness, and it’s much more expressive at the moment, with aromas of cedar, plum, mocha, and leather. It’s full-bodied and expands through the palate, with broad-shouldered tannins, mouthwatering saltiness, and a savory and mineral-noted finish that lasts long on the palate. This is a commanding vintage of this wine that will take time to unfurl. Drink 2027-2050. |

Vinous (93)The 2012 Barolo Riserva 10 Anni Case Nere is one of the more aromatically beguiling wines in this range. Smoke, game, sage, rosemary, licorice and crushed rose petals all lift from the glass. A weightless, totally gracious wine, the 2012 Case Nere is wonderfully complete, nuanced and very pretty. Next to the other wines in the range, the Case Nere is a bit fragile and ethereal in feel, but it is the wine's aromatic presence that truly stands out. |

James Suckling (95)A graceful wine with cinnamon, earth, strawberries, sweet violets and leesy complexity. There is a lot of fruit depth, with a full body, lifted acidity and dense, ripe, velvety tannins. The finish is polished yet tight. Drinkable now, but best from 2027. |

James Suckling (99)This is a young wine with terrific depth and layers of fruit. It’s full-bodied with notes of eucalyptus, lavender and sage and hints of matchsticks and oranges. It’s linear and tight at the end, with an energetic finish. Very Saffredi in nature. Better than the 2021. 65% cabernet sauvignon, 25% merlot and 10% petite verdot. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)A jeweled magenta/ruby color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is perfumed with preserved flowers, kirsch, fresh herbs, sage, and mossy earth. Full and elegant, it offers a silky mouthfeel, ripe tannins, even acidity, and a lovely, pure, concentrated, fresh feel. It's long on the palate, with its mouthwatering salinity and prettier red strawberry-noted perfume lasting on the finish. It's both approachable now and impeccably structured to enjoy over the coming 15-20 years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)The 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is one of the standouts of the vintage and is a youthful ruby/magenta color. On the nose, it's floral and perfumed with aromas of violets, black cherries, graphite, rosemary, and fresh sage. It's seamless on the palate, with a weightless feel in a medium to full-bodied frame, and has plush tannins, refreshing acidity, and a haunting finish. This stunning wine should drink well over the next 20 years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (93)A deep red/brick color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is ripe with notes of black cherries, tea leaves, dark, sappy herbs, and forest floor. Full-bodied, it's ripe and inviting, with a velvety texture and a great warming finish, and while it's a ripe wine, it carries it with a weightless feel and does not feel heavy-handed. It should continue to drink well over the next 10-12 years. |

Jeb Dunnuck (95)Pouring a jeweled red/ruby color, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino is attractive and layered on the nose, with pure notes of red cherries, sweet Mediterranean herbs, crushed roses, and mossy earth. Medium-bodied, it brings lovely energy to the palate and is upfront with mouthwatering salty notes, snappy ripe acidity, and a clean, balanced finish, with even ripeness and stone-fruited notes of apricot on the back palate. This highly appealing Brunello is hard to resist now but likely has the ability to go the long haul over the coming 15-20 years. |
