The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino may be immortal. It's impossibly fresh and pure yet powerful and complex. Wild strawberries, rhubarb, exotic spice and crushed blood orange form its seductive bouquet, along with the slightest hint of dusty earth. It balances ripe cherry-berry fruits with sweet spice and inner rose, all elevated by an enticing core of juicy acidity. This finishes remarkably fresh and structured, yet the tannins are round and soft, leaving behind an air of licorice as the mouth waters for more. This is a total pleasure to taste and easily one of the most successful 2004s at this stage.Inc. TAX€4,017.07 -

Interpreting a vintage marked by August heat, the 2020 Brunello Di Montalcino pours a bright red hue and leans into a slightly richer, more immediate profile than the 2021. The nose has black raspberries, grenadine, violets, and warm spice. Medium to full-bodied, it has broader shoulders and more flesh, with ripe tannins, balanced acidity, and a generous finish that stays refined. It should drink well for 10 to 15 years. The 2006 Harlequin is one of the most exciting, viscerally thrilling wines I have tasted in a while. Sweet aromas of roasted espresso beans lead to wild cherries, mint, licorice, blackberry jam and star anise as this opulent, full-throttle wine shows off its inimitable class and pedigree. Today the oak remains a touch intrusive, particularly in the tannins, but there appears to be more than enough density in the fruit to provide balance. The finish is eternal. This is a profound effort from Celestino Gaspari and his team. Harlequin is made from as many as fifteen different varieties. The grapes go through a brief drying process prior to being vinified. The wine is then racked into French oak, where it spends two full years with no subsequent rackings. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.Inc. TAX€5,104.54 -

This is black as pitch in the glass and, yes, there’s a light, tarry edge to the super-concentrated prune, date and currant fruit. But even more interesting are the complex notes of bitter-orange liqueur, aged balsamic, fresh roasting herbs, cinnamon, roasted chestnuts, black tea and licorice. The more you decant in advance, the more nuances will emerge. It’s full-boded with huge concentration and lots of chewy tannin that is managing to hold the fruit back for now. This needs plenty of time to develop in the bottle. Just superb. One of the greatest Dal Forno’s ever.Inc. TAX€2,163.02 -

The wine is full-bodied, with a ripe velveteen texture, while maintaining freshness, and it is elegantly rounded through the mid-palate, with notes of black plum, Earl Grey, scorched earth, and tea leaf. The Pieve Santa Restituta 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Sugarille reveals a finely chiseled quality, with direct and lifted fruit, that gives this wine an angular or delineated personality.
