Vinous (93)The 2018 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is one of the most pleasant surprises in this range. Medium in body, with terrific fruit density and fine balance, the 2018 offers up the essence of sweet red cherry fruit, kirsch, blood orange, rose petal, spice and mint. I remember visiting this site with Enrico Scavino many years ago, before it was planted, and seeing his excitement about its potential. In 2018, all of that really comes through. |

Wine Advocate (94)The 2010 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio bursts open with an immediate whiff of fresh flowers and crushed roses. Paolo Scavino bought the four-hectare, south-facing vineyard in 2001 the same moment he saw the listing. Crushed mineral tones appear at the back but those delicate fruit and floral tones take center stage. The wine is smooth and silky, although the tannic presence and acidity are very much in play. Hints of tar, white truffle, smoke, lavender and pine add shades of nuance to the bold, purple/blackish fruit. The French oak is a bit pronounced; otherwise this is a fine effort. Since it was first made in 2002, Scavino's Bricco Ambrogio has shown itself to be the most forward and fruit-driven of the single-vineyard Barolos. |
