A testament to winemaking prestige, Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2019 epitomises artisanal excellence. Originating in the mountainous Abruzzo region in central Italy, this extraordinary wine is produced from vines grown on lands rich in clay and limestone that aptly nurture the indigenous Trebbiano grapes. The Valentini family’s heritage of timeless tradition is evident in the fiercely manual process utilised, from harvesting to decanting. The wine showcases a remarkable balance of fruity notes and fresh acidity, with the 2019 vintage particularly expressing distinct nuances of citrus and almond. Intense and complex, this amber nectar resonates with a captivating mineral finish that demonstrates the impeccable quality of this hand-crafted masterpiece. Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2019 is not simply a wine, but a delectable epitome of Italy's historical vineyard legacy – a worthy addition to the collection of any discerning oenophile. |

Vinous (94+)The zesty and wickedly fresh 2018 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo enthralls with a perfumed dusting of confectioners’ spice over a core of lemon confit, lime zest and smoke. This is actually playful and energetic on the palate, packed full of acidity and a sizzling of salty minerals that create a reverberation of tension that travels to your core. A coating of primary concentration lingers on the palate through the lightly structured finale, promising longevity despite the 2018’s undeniably drinkable character today. Frankly, it’s hard not to drink instead of taste. |

Vinous (94)Luminous straw-yellow. Tangy aromas of nectarine, pineapple, apple, minty herbs and lime, complicated by a bright mineral undertone. Very precise, vibrant and dense, offering floral, captivating flavors of white stone fruit, pineapple, crushed rock and spice. The compelling fruity acidity frames and carries the extremely lifted and complex flavors through the very long finish, which features lingering notes of lemon verbena, jasmine and minerals. Along with the great 2010, this is the best Trebbiano d’Abruzzo from Valentini since his also outstanding 2008. |

Vinous (92+)Bright, pale yellow. Deep but still closed nose hints at lemon, green apple and crushed stone, with a distinctly herbal element. Then broader in the mouth but high in acid, dry and not yet filled in, only hinting at the intensely concentrated lemon, chlorophyll, quince and honeyed stone fruit flavors. Finishes with wonderful purity and outstanding length. More backward and minerally than just about any other Italian white wine at a similar stage of development: I suggest cellaring this for a couple of years, then enjoying it for a decade after that. |

Vinous (88)The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is the result of a severe selection that resulted in no Brunello being bottled in this vintage, a decision I imagine few producers are prepared to make. Tobacco, dried herbs and sweet red cherries all flesh out in this large-scaled powerful Rosso. There is plenty of depth to fill out the wine's broad frame. At the same time, the 2011 is clearly evolving fairly quickly and needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. |

Jeb Dunnuck (100)A deeper red hue with light garnet at the rim, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Montosoli is absolutely gorgeous on the nose, with saddle leather, ripe cherries, amaro spice, blood orange, and a savory earthy character that feels distinctly of the site. The palate is medium to full-bodied yet weightless, with angular tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, salty finish that just keeps building. This is my favorite in the range, one of the outstanding wines of the vintage as a whole, and it should only improve with time. Drink 2027-2057. |

James Suckling (100)This is the first commercial release of Montosoli from Valdicava and shows incredibly complex and decadent aromas of fruit, wet earth, forest floor, leaves and cedar. Full-bodied with tannins that roll off the palate and flow to the finish. Fine, velvety texture. Lasts for minutes. Already so attractive, but be patient. Try after 2021 and onwards. |
