The 2017 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped is deep, resonant and expansive, as wines from this site tend to be. In this tasting, the Mosconi is wonderfully deep. Its stature alone is compelling. And yet there is so much to the Mosconi. Readers will find a Barolo that melds together a rich, racy expression of fruit with plenty of structure that wraps everything together. Rich red fruit, blood orange, tar, spice and cedar build as the 2017 gains volume through to the finish.

Equally compelling, the 2020 Barolo Mosconi Vigna Ped boasts a ruby hue and reveals layered notes of blood orange, apricot, roses, tea leaf, and wild raspberries. Savory on the palate, it has a noble structure, with outstanding definition and persistence. I ‘m impressed with the overall balance and finesse this wine has to offer. Drink 2025-2045.

(from vines averaging 30 years of age): Bright, deep red. Ripe, minerally aromas of cherry liqueur, spun sugar, mocha, flowers and sweet oak. Wonderfully fat, sweet, creamy and full, especially in the context of this vintage. Saturates the palate with a wave of raspberry, mocha and truffle flavors. Remarkably showy already but this should be a cellar treasure. Finishes with extremely refined tannins and outstanding length. A baby today, even if its high quality is easy to see. Guido Fantino describes 2008 as an unbelievable vintage, with a near-perfect vegetative cycle, and perfect day-night temperature differences.

You get the toasted spiciness of the Barolo Vigna del Gris as well as the Nebbiolo brightness of the Barolo Mosconi. The wine is stacked tall, one plush layer on top of the next and the palate is rewarded with a lovely quality of tannin that is firm and unyielding but also polished and tight at the same time. Some of the typical darker, more balsamic notes of Ginestra are covered by the pure intensity of the fruit. As always, Ginestra is a wine that is defined by its combination of expressive aromatics, rich fruit and incisive tannins. In 2011 readers should expect a Ginestra that will drink well a little earlier than normal.

The 2013 Barolo Ginestra Vigna Sorì Ginestra shows a whole other level of fiber and textural richness. This is a stunning wine from thicker soils that deliver more structure, firmness and overall depth. With that superiore richness, the wine is also endowed with balanced acidity, plump primary fruit and an elegant touch of balsam or menthol herb on the finish. This drives the finish forward for a few long and glorious minutes. Dig deeper still, and you find a sweet note of chocolate hazelnut.
