The 1999 Tenuta di Trinoro (70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot) presents a distinctly over-ripe, almost raisinated personality, along with notes of chocolate and sweet toasted oak on a massively concentrated frame, with outstanding length and a lingering touch of sweetness on the finish. It shows excellent balance but should be a relatively early-maturing Tenuta di Trinoro. As befits a producer who pushes the envelope, with this wine Franchetti seems to have gone a bit too far.Inc. If you ask Andrea Franchetti to name his two favorite vintages of the past, they are 2001 and 2009. The 2009 Tenuta di Trinoro is indeed an outstanding blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is showing beautifully right now and promises more excellence to carry it forward over the years. At the moment, it is seamless and infinite with a superior sense of balance and dark fruit integrity. It speaks in a loud, clear and articulate voice. The wine's appearance shows a dark, impenetrable color that underlines the ideal growing conditions of the vintage and the slow fruit-ripening. The aromas are stunning and perfectly balanced, showing both elegance and power. The tannins deliver dimension and a firmly unyielding quality that bodes very well for the future evolution of this stunning wine.Inc. TAX€1,361.48 -

Andrea Franchetti's 2014 Tenuta di Trinoro represents the vintner's definitive shift to a more elegant and focused style of winemaking. This wine was once celebrated for its super ripe aromas and sweet, jammy flavors. But this cool vintage hammers home a new approach that sees less bulk and density—something Franchetti has been enthusiastically embracing over the past five years or so. The results are stratospheric. The Tenuta di Trinoro property sees pretty high average temperatures in summer. The quality of fruit offers special grace and elegance in cool years like this. The 2015 Trinoro is soft, silky and nuanced. Although a very pretty and expressive wine, the 2015 doesn’t quite have the dimension or complexity of the very finest years. Admittedly, that is a very high bar. Today, the 2015 comes across as a bit understated and hushed, two adjectives I can't believe I am using to describe a Trinoro wine. Time in the glass finally allows the 2015 to start opening up. I would cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, as it is not close to being fully expressive.Inc. TAX€1,081.72 -

This is a beautiful wine with infinite depth. Born in a hot and dry vintage, the 2017 Tenuta di Trinoro (a blend of 69% Cabernet Franc, 23% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon) never steps over the line into jammy or overripe territory. In fact, the wine is masterfully restrained and elegantly managed. Andrea Franchetti dealt with a harvest that, as he put it, yielded "tiny berries, all skin and seeds and no juice." I only feel the heat of the vintage in the tannins, which are a bit dryer and more astringent in this wine. This full-bodied Tuscan red boasts deep layers of black fruit, spice, tar and campfire ash. About 7,000 bottles were made. Give the wine an extra year or two of bottle aging to allow those tannins to soften up just a bit.Inc. TAX€169.02 -

Andrea Franchetti's 2018 Tenuta di Trinoro reminds me of the wines he made a decade ago or more. This dark, full and concentrated red blend shows a good amount of the power and the ripe, fruit-forward appeal that I associate with the wines made from those golden years from 2001 to 2007. There is a beautiful fullness and opulence here that wraps thickly over the palate with blackberry, rum cake, charred meat and black licorice. This blend of 59% Cabernet Franc and 41% Merlot offers up aromas of spice, mahogany and some of the grilled herbs or rosemary that you would associate with the Cabernet. The finish is super long and rich, with elegant tannins and lasting fruit momentum. Despite that slightly retro or nostalgic full-throttle bouquet that I described above, the mouthfeel is more tapered, fine and ethereal that you might expect. Some 7,000 bottles were made. You get all sorts of surprises from this beautiful, soulful wine.Inc. TAX€633.26 -

This is a stunning wine and one of the best in this report covering the icons of Tuscany. The 2019 Tenuta di Trinoro is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. Fruit is sourced from the very best parcels, and the blending formula changes according to vintage and the style desired by vintner Andrea Franchetti. These vineyard parcels vary in altitude, ranging from 400 to 600 meters above sea level, and the soils are quite varied with pockets of clay, sand and rock. The Trinoro is profoundly deep and pure with a solid core of black fruit that is framed by an elegant contour of spice, tobacco, smoke and crushed stone. To the palate, the wine is long and the finish can be counted in minutes, but the entire experience is beautifully streamlined and velvety. This vintage saw an important freeze event on the 7th of May, and 9,000 fire candles were lit in the lower vineyard blocks to fight off frost damage.Inc. TAX€444.12 -

The flagship wine from Tenuta di Trinoro is this gorgeous blend of 92% Cabernet Franc and 8% Merlot. The 2020 Tenuta di Trinoro follows on the heels of the 2019 vintage that earned a perfect 100-point score. The 2020 vintage is more open-knit for sure, but it offers a very special view onto Cabernet Franc in particular. The plush black cherry softness of the Merlot is aligned magically with the dark intensity and tannic power of the Cabernet Franc. The fruit ripeness is impeccable and there are no green tones, nor are there any overripe nuances. Everything comes together with balance. This vintage saw an important freeze event on the 7th of May, and 9,000 fire candles were lit in the lower vineyard blocks to fight off frost damage. In Bond€366.00 -

For the first time, this wine is being released with an extra year of bottle age. 6,000 bottles were made.In Bond€1,540.00 -
(6x75cl) 2021Vinous - Antonio Galloni (98)
The 2021 Tenuta di Trinoro is an elegant, sleek wine. I can’t remember tasting a Tenuta with this much textural finesse and silkiness. Ripe tannins wrap around a core of blue/black fruits, lavender, sage, mint and chocolate. Medium in body, yet also fleshy and very deep, the 2021 is positively stellar. What a wine!In Bond€1,900.00 -

The 2009 Palazzi emerges from the glass with super-ripe dark fruit intermingled with floral overtones. The wine turns darker and positively explosive with time in the glass while retaining much of its understated personality. A final blast of dark red fruit frames the finish. The 2009 Palazzi is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc that spent 7 months in neutral French oak.In Bond€844.00 -

The 2010 Palazzi is mostly Merlot with a dollop of other grapes, mainly Cabernet Franc. It is also the richest of the 2010s. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame a deep core of dark red fruit. This is an especially powerful wine for 2010, a vintage that gave Franchetti very little to work with. The 2010 spent just five months in oak. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.In Bond€1,805.00 -

Franchetti's 2011 Palazzi, 100% Merlot, in this vintage is captivating in its beauty. Freshly cut flowers, lavender, violets, mint, cloves and plums literally jump from the glass. Despite its opulent, full-throttle personality, the 2011 is beautifully balanced. Ripeness is pushed to the extreme, that is for sure, but nevertheless all the elements are very much in the right place. I am not sure how the 2011 will age, but it should drink beautifully for at least a handful of years. In Bond€1,805.00 -

The 2018 Palazzi, 100% Merlot, is plush, silky and so inviting. Like all of these wines, the Palazzi is quite overt, and yet all the elements come together so well. Dark raspberry fruit, chocolate, spice, leather, licorice all flesh out in the glass. Flamboyant and exotically ripe, Palazzi is a quintessential wine from Tenuta di Trinoro. In Bond€1,480.00 -
