Vinous (91-93)(from vines picked near the beginning of the harvest; just about finished with its malolactic fermentation): Pale yellow color. Aromas of peach, white pepper and menthol. Nicely concentrated flavors of pineapple, stone fruits, clove and saline minerality juxtapose a subtle savory character with a sexy touch of sweetness. A step up in texture and length from Michelot's Meursault Charmes, which was quite silky, ripe and high-toned at the time of my visit but had barely started its malolactic fermentation. A tad phenolic on the back end. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-95)Pierre Millemann has made four barrels of his 2023 Cazetiers, all from Damy and using Tronçais wood, but with different toasting levels for each of them. One third whole bunch. A glowing dark purple. The bouquet is not yet particularly open but with a classic savoury nose, which I find typical of Gevrey. As with the Corton, there is a burst of energy which emerges on the palate. The tannins are at this stage relatively firm but with a wealth of dark, ripe yet still in place fruit alongside. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Jul 2024. |

Burghound (91)(2021 was the first vintage). Here too there is just enough reduction to push the otherwise layered aromas of cool red and black cherry, plum, violet, lavender, herbal tea to the background The delicious, vibrant and more refined middle weight flavors possess a lovely mouthfeel as well as focused power that suffuses the youthfully austere and compact finale that delivers fine length. This is on the lighter side for Latricières, but even so, it’s one that is going to require at least moderate patience. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)In 500 litre barrel, new by Damy from the Tronçais forest. Fullish yellow as no processing has been done. An attractive whiff of protective reduction mixed in with generous fruit. Indeed, the core on the palate is quite steely despite the colour and the is enough fruit concentration to manage the undoubted presence of oak which has a light toast on the vanilla. An extended finish for this embryonic white which will be racked to stainless steel in November. |

Burghound (92)Much like the Ile de Vergelesses, there is just enough reduction to blur the nuances of the fruit. The mouthfeel of the middleweight flavors is finer if less powerful than those of the Cazetiers while delivering solid length on the mineral-driven finish that displays excellent length on the well-balanced finale. This mildly austere effort should repay at least a decade of cellaring. In a word, lovely. |
