Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (93-96)A fresh crimson purple. The bouquet is more precisely defined than the Echezeaux, dark fruit yet with some red berries also involved. The fruit fills the palate more generously, with excellent structure from well-defined tannins and a little point of acidity. This stands up very well and shows the character of the appellation. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Dec 2024. |

Vinous (91)The 2020 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a rich and quite exotic bouquet that, for me, is just missing a bit of Pinoté. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe and fleshy tannins. Soft and caressing, nicely balanced, richer than the 2021 (no surprise there) with black pepper and a touch of spice on the finish. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (91-94)Not one of the deeper colours, on the ruby crimson border. A fine, classy, elegant nose, subtle rather than blockbuster. The oak is quite nicely integrated, alongside the fruit which shows more its Vosne-Romanée attributes. A little orange zest, with fair persistence. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted Dec 2024. |

Vinous (90)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots 1er Cru has an exotic bouquet with hints of prune filtering through the red cherry and cassis notes. Very opulent. The palate is rounded and caressing, plush and quite decadent. The 40-50% new oak is nicely integrated, though I would like to see more precision on the finish. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (92-94)A full dark purple, again bolstered by the barrel. Dark fruit, which maintains an even presence across the palate. This one does not fade in the middle as some Suchots can do. A fine long balanced finish. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: December 2023. |

Vinous (89)The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Village has a lively bouquet with dark cherry fruit, hints of fig and damson, though I would never describe it as over-ripe. There might be just touch of brettanomyces here. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, quite rounded and voluminous in the mouth with a soft landing on the finish. Packed full of flavour, this will be easy to drink in its youth. |

Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (90-92)A slightly lighter ruby purple, with a sense of greater finesse compared to the Nuits-St-Georges. This is nonetheless a predominantly clay based Vosne. Plenty of a softer red fruit in this wine, relatively floral, with a useful counterpoint of acidity and notable persistence. From Les Ormes, Vigneux and a small bit of Communes. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Dec 2024. |

Vinous (90)First harvested in 2014, this 10,000-vine plot was created by basically exploding large blocks of flint with dynamite to obtain a flint-rich vineyard full of large rocks. The result is a creamy, silken 2019 Pouilly-Fumé Barre à Mine that is welcoming; flavor-wise, it's all ground almonds and oyster shell with masses of acidity. There's a firmness on the finish due to the flinty soils, providing upright structure and freshness, but once again, as with other 2019s, the alcohol gets in the way of the finish. An appetizing yet structured wine. |

Vinous (93)Produced from a flint site that needed to be blown up to make the terroir and made from relatively young vines, this is initially a tender and supple style with a whiff of gunsmoke/flint, a taut line of precision that runs through its core, a mere hint of green herbs reminding you that Pouilly is a Sauvignon producer and even a hint of white pepper. It's a powerful style that has an attractive sense of bitterness holding it together. At just 13%, this is wonderfully balanced, aromatic and driven in this vintage. You may even feel this sense of spice that warms the palate, almost like you've had a warming Indian curry - it's not the alcohol but something else - maybe it's the lint. Unique and intriguing. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (90-92)The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from vines over 50 years old from three lieux-dits. Tightly knit on the nose, this adds just a soupçon of blue fruit to the bouquet that's a little floral with admirable vigor. Just a hint of kirsch emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip on the entry. This is a solid Chambolle-Musigny, though the finish should be tighter with more flow. It's just a bit static at the moment. Give this a couple of years in bottle. |

This has a classy bouquet with touches of freshly-rolled tobacco and graphite infusing the dark berry fruit, as hints of iris flower surface over time and remain subtle throughout. There is wonderful definition here. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh with disarming purity on the entry, slightly chalky tannins and a little confit fruit toward the finish. Stylish and suave, this is very seductive but there is structure and substance to suggest it will age well in bottle. Excellent. |
