Jane Anson Inside Bordeaux (96)Continuing a run of exceptional vintages where everything seems to be going right at this property. High Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, and it comes across in the sleek black fruits and peony character, very much floral and finessed. Good stuff, this is impressive, enjoyable, very St Julien and very good. 50% new oak for ageing, Eric Boissenot consultant, Mathieu Bordes director since 2013. |

The Lagrange Pomerol 2012 epitomises the finesse and depth characteristic of this esteemed appellation. Harvested from meticulously tended Merlot and Cabernet Franc vineyards nestled in the heart of Pomerol, Château Lagrange employs traditional vinification techniques combined with modern precision. The 2012 vintage benefited from an impeccable growing season, allowing grapes to achieve optimal ripeness and balance. Post-fermentation, the wine was aged in a combination of French oak barrels, imparting subtle tannins and complex aroma profiles. Under the stewardship of a renowned winemaker, Lagrange Pomerol 2012 reveals layers of dark cherry, plum, and truffle, underpinned by elegant notes of cedar and spice. This vintage showcases the producer’s commitment to excellence, resulting in a harmonious and lingering finish. A quintessential expression of Pomerol’s terroir, Lagrange Pomerol 2012 is poised to develop further with age, promising an exquisite addition to any fine wine collection. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97)The flagship from a 7-acre parcel in the estate vineyard, the 2016 Cahors Le Pigeonnier is another Pomerol look-alike with its beautiful bouquet of black cherries, blueberries, damp earth, white chocolate, and exotic spices. As with all these 2016s, it’s a ripe, powerful, opulent wine that doesn’t pull any punches, yet always stays balanced, elegant, and remarkably fresh. Made from 100% Malbec aged two years in new French oak, it builds beautifully with time in the glass, has a deep, layered mid-palate, and a blockbuster finish. It’s possibly the finest Cahors I’ve ever tasted and would pass undetected in a blind lineup of top Napa Cabernets. While it’s no doubt beautiful today, I suspect it will develop even more nuance and complexity with 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for 15-20 years. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (93)The NV (2022) Extra Brut Les 7 is a blend of the seven permitted varieties in Champagne, based on 2022 but with 60% reserve wines from a mini-solera that dates back to 2005. Dried apricot, marzipan, chamomile and lightly honeyed accents fill out the layers gracefully. There's a lot to admire in Les 7, starting with its understated complexity and dynamic energy. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: December 2024; multiple disgorgements throughout the year. |
