Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy (96-98)This is a blend of Chambertin itself (two-thirds) and one third Clos de Bèze. Glowing imperial crimson purple. The nose has it all, clearly all the nobility it should have. The crunchy mineral tension found throughout the Fourrier wines pays dividends here. There is exceptional intensity but it is beautifully judged. Some liquorice notes but above all an amazing intensity of fruit which lingers long. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has an engaging nose with brambly red berry fruit, pressed rose petals, orange essence and light marmalade aromas. The palate is vivacious and full of energy. Vinous (92)Deep violet color. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit aromas are enlivened by peppery spices and fresh flowers. Dense and palate-coating, offering concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors that stretch out and gain vivacity with air. Dusty tannins give grip to a penetrating, long finish that features suave floral pastille and berry liqueur qualities. I had the chance to revisit the 2011 Grandes Places and, as was the case last year, it's showing a surprisingly open-knit character, with sappy dark fruit and floral qualities and no rough edges. While it has the depth to suggest that up to a decade of patience would be rewarded, there's plenty going on to grab one's attention now as well. |
