Vinous (95)Good medium red. Very ripe, soil-driven aromas of black raspberry and smoky minerality. Tactile, vibrant and deep; at once chewy and utterly silky. This compellingly dense grand cru really clings to the palate on the very long, ripely tannic finish. A fabulous combination of energy and flesh: this one hit my G-Spot. One for the cellar. Like the Charmes-Chambertin, this wine is bottled under the Domaine Christophe Roumier label. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2018 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru has one of my favorite bouquets from Roumier this year, delivering heavenly scents of blueberry, violets and incense, all exquisitely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, and quite precise and linear. Not a powerful or voluminous Ruchottes, but full of tension and mineralité on the finish. Excellent and cerebral. |

Vinous (94-96)The 2021 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru contains around two-thirds whole bunches. The Ruchottes-Chambertin immediately puts the Charmes-Chambertin in its place with more fruit intensity; the limestone terroir percolates through with aplomb. The palate displays exquisite balance and transparency, linear at first and then fanning out towards the finish whilst upholding its mineral line. Hardcore...in a good way. |

Wine Advocate (87)This well-respected cru bourgeois from proprietor Vialard has a tendency to be relatively tannic, which could be scary in a vintage like 2005, but this wine is dense, powerful and rich. It displays a still youthful dark plum/purple color, medium body, and lots of minerality and fruit. Forget it for another 3-4 years and drink it over the next decade. |
