Densely packed but lively as well, finishing with outstanding clarity, harmonious tannins and superb, blue-fruit-driven persistence.

Brilliant ruby. Intense blackberry and cherry aromas are complicated by suggestions of exotic spices, olive, cracked pepper and pungent flowers. Youthfully chewy, appealingly sweet black and blue fruit flavors deepen and turn spicier with air; a smoky mineral element adds back-end lift and cut. Rounded tannins add subtle grip to an impressively long, floral- and spice-driven finish that leaves salty olive and cola notes behind. All whole clusters.

Stains the palate with appealingly sweet black and blue fruit, cola, candied violet and spicecake flavors that show a suave blend of depth and energy. Finishes on an emphatic blue fruit note, showing sharp definition, well-knit tannins and resonating florality.

The 2020 Cornas Chaillot comes from a mix of lieux-dits (it's mostly Chaillot) as well as some younger vines. It's an incredible wine in its own right and certainly doesn't give much in terms quality to its big brother. Awesome aromatics of crème de cassis, violets, crushed stone, and bouquet garni-like notes all define the aromatics, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a deep, concentrated mid-palate, and ultra-fine tannins. It's a touch more finesse-driven and elegant compared to the Reynard and should round into form with just 5-7 years of bottle age. This is legit awesome Cornas that will have 20-25 years of ultimate longevity.

The 2021 Cornas Chaillot outperforms the rustic 2020 I tasted on the same occasion. Ripe black fruit, graphite, cedar, stemmy facets and peppery nuances are all amplified in the glass. Intense and expressive, the medium- to full-bodied 2021 is a gorgeous Chaillot, packing a stunning energetic lift on the mid-palate. Checking out with timeless elegance on the refined finish, the 2021 is a showstopper.

Deep in black and blue fruit flavors but also lithe and precise, offering a dizzying array of floral and spice accents that gain strength with air. Show remarkable clarity and power on the finish, which is given grip by impressively fine-grained tannins. An uncanny blend of richness and vivacity, with the balance to age effortlessly.

Tasted in two components: #1: Intense raspberry and cherry aromas and flavors, with an array of spice and floral notes adding complexity. Sappy, penetrating and pure, with excellent back-end thrust and slow-building tannins. #2: Sexy, floral-accented aromas of blueberry, cassis and cola, with a strong mineral accent. Displays impressive energy and focus, with a powerful and tenacious finish.

Coming from the oldest vines of the estate and one of the best vineyards in the world for Syrah, the 2012 Cornas Reynard is a massive, thick and unctuous effort that's bursting at the seams with notions of crème de cassis, crushed violets, smoked game and incredible minerality. Just a sensational Cornas that surpasses what was achieved in 2009 and 2010, this full-bodied, concentrated and structured effort has the fruit to be enjoyable now (this is a common trait of the vintage), yet has the depth, richness and balance to evolve for over two decades. It doesn't come cheap, but it's up there with some of the finest Syrahs made.

Sappy, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering pliant black raspberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors complemented by exotic five-spice powder and white pepper accents. Spicy, sweet and seamless on the remarkably persistent finish, which displays velvety, harmonious tannins and resonating floral and blue fruit notes.
