Wine Advocate (97)The 2019 Le Tertre Roteboeuf is a terrific success from the Mitjaville family. This amphitheatrical vineyard on the clay-limestone slopes of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, planted with low, cordon-trained vines, has delivered a striking wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of cassis, blackberries and cherries mingled with notions of violets, cigar box, sweet spices and loamy soil. Full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with a deep core of fruit, velvety tannins and lively acids, it will richly reward a decade and more of bottle age. Interestingly, proprietor François Mitjaville contended that 2019's distribution of rainfall had tended to invert the usual stylistic distinction between Tertre Roteboeuf and Roc de Cambes, his wine from the Côtes de Bourg; yet, on the day of our tasting, geology trumped weather, because as usual the former was more sensual, the latter blockier and more structured. |

Jeb Dunnuck (97-99)One of the wines of the vintage will be the 2020 Château Tertre Roteboeuf, which has its classic exotic, boisterous, incredibly sexy personality front and center. Cassis, smoked meats, vanilla, graphite, white truffle, and a liqueur of rocks-like minerality are just some of the nuances here, and it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, incredibly purity, building tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. I followed this barrel sample for just under a week and it never showed a hint of oxidation or fatigue. This cuvée always shows lots of oak (it’s brought up in 100% new barrels), especially in its youth, but it is incredibly well-integrated and largely disappears once at full maturity. Hide bottles for 7-8 years if you can, and it’s going to keep for 30 years or more. |

Vinous - Antonio Galloni (95)The 2021 Tertre-Rôteboeuf is a dark, sensual wine. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2021 is wonderfully persistent and nuanced from start to finish. Unveiling an exquisite taste of Burgundy, the Testut Chablis Grand Cru Grenouille 2018 is a magnificent representation of fine French winemaking. Acreaged on the picturesque slopes of Chablis’s Grand Cru vineyard, this wine is beautifully crafted by Château Testut, a heritage estate with a deep-rooted passion for wine-making since 1892. Employing traditional vinification methods, grapes meticulously chosen from 70-year-old vines, are subjected to pneumatic pressing. The juice is then fermented in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures, ensuring it retains the hallmark mineral purity of the terroir. Imbibing a delicate golden hue, this vintage promises a complex aromatic ensemble of white flowers, ripe orchard fruits with underlying flinty overtones, interlaced with an elegant vanilla accent contributed by an 18-month sojourn in oak barrels. With an enduring finish, the Testut Chablis Grand Cru Grenouille 2018 is a balanced marriage of robustness and finesse, a delightful addition for every wine aficionado's collection. |
