Vinous (89-91)The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Village was picked up to 8 September and here, the malo was unfinished. This contains 50% whole bunch. The nose was a little difficult to assess because of that, though there appears to be plenty of vibrant black cherry and boysenberry fruit here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, quite fresh and harmonious with a little piquancy towards the finish. |

Burghound (89)(from vines that are to the east of D974 and mostly in Les Crais along with many other small parcels that include Le Fourneau, Reniard, Croix des Champs, Grands Champs, Champ Franc and Es Murots). A deeply pitched nose reflects aromas of humus-inflected poached plum, cassis and violet that display hints of earth and leather. The supple and succulent yet well-detailed medium weight flavors possess a lovely mouthfeel before concluding in a youthfully austere finish where a touch of wood arises. This is an fine Gevrey villages and worth your interest. |

Vinous (92)Esmonin's 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is rich, powerful and explosive. Today the Vieilles Vignes is surprisingly brooding and introspective in style. Black fruit, violets, dark spices and menthol inform the mysterious finish. The 2011 isn't quite fully formed yet, but it is impressive and full of personality, that much is clear. |

Vinous (89)The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes offers dusty black fruit on the nose. It needs to demonstrate a little more Pinoté character, although pleasant floral scents do emerge with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins. Lower acidity than its peers, it is a dense Gevrey-Chambertin with moderate grip, but like the Village Cru, it needs to show more Pinoté on the finish, which is muscular at the moment. |

Vinous (90-92)The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is matured in 50% new oak with 60% whole-bunch fruit. I actually like the definition on the nose, which is intense but shows decent clarity, offering copious dark cherries, marmalade and blueberry aromas. The fresh palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, delivering dark cherry and black currant fruit laced with blood orange and white pepper and coming across quite citric on the finish. Good potential. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (92)The 2019 Taillefer has evolved nicely since I tasted it from barrel. On the nose, vivacious brambly red fruit, Earl Grey, allspice and cedar aromas vie for attention. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, a liberal sprinkling of white pepper and a cohesive finish. This should age well in bottle. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2020 Taillefer was tasted from two bottles. I must confess that the first left me scratching my head and did not rate it. The second is cleaner and more focused on the nose with blackberry, briary and light tertiary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine tannins and well-judged acidity. Ah…this is much more like it. Not long, but its precision really develops nicely in the glass. My score is based on the second bottle. |
