The 2017 de Pez is a pleasant Saint-Estèphe to drink now and over the next handful of years. Élevage (12 months in 30% new oak) has brought out a level of finesse the 2017 did not show from barrel. At the same time, while the 2017 has gained in elegance it has also lost some of the richness it showed en primeur. The 2017 is floral, gracious and medium in body, with tobacco and cedar as well as sweet red berry fruit and floral notes that add brightness on the subtle, silky finish. The 2017 is very nicely done, but I find it a bit light in structure; this is a wine to drink on the young side.

  • Chateau de Meursault Pommard Clos des Epenots 2016 (6x75cl)

    Vinous (94)

The 2016 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and blue fruit on the nose, floral with hints of pressed violets and iris, quite pure and demonstrating very well integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, succulent tannin that insistently grippes. Just a slight chewiness towards the finish and yet there is a satisfying degree of elegance and poise throughout this Pommard. Excellent. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.

    Vinous (87-89)

The 2021 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru does not quite deliver on the nose and I find more complexity on the Beaune Grèves by direct comparison. The palate is well balanced and has a degree of elegance on the entry. It is quite cohesive and slightly bitter towards the finish with a peppery aftertaste. Not bad, but not long-term.

    (6x150cl) 2017

    Vinous - Antonio Galloni (90)
