Light, bright yellow. Pungent, highly aromatic bouquet evokes peach nectar, poached pear, vanilla and honeysuckle. Deeply pitched orchard and pit fruit flavors show very good intensity and lift, picking up spiciness with air. Finishes on a suave floral note, with impressive focus and length.

Wine Advocate (91)

Based on 75% Pinot Meunier, 15% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir (30- to 60-year-old vines, mainly picked in 2011), the NV Origin'elle is a pretty good representative of both the plantings on the biodynamically farmed 8.4 hectares; these vineyards are located in the most western part of the Marne valley. The wine is made in the special style of Françoise Bedel and her son Vincent, whose wines are kept on the lees for almost one year (in this case in enameled tanks). Straw-golden in color and clear and aromatic on the intense and pretty rich nose, this is a full and round, yet delicate and silky textured fizz. It has a long and aromatic finish. Although the wine seems to be rich and fat at first, it is in fact full-flavored but pure and finesse-full. The finish is clear and fresh, and reveals a nice mineral grip. This is an excellent Champagne as an aperitif, but also with food.

The NV Extra-Brut L'Accomplie is a blend of five barrels, 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay from the lower slopes of Mont Benoit, all 2023 vintage. Two presses were used; the first was 100% Pinot Noir, the second was a Pinot Noir/Chardonnay co-ferment. Considering the year, it's a remarkable wine. Chalky and floral notes open first. Time in the glass brings out the wine's tension, energy and class. It will surely be one of the top wines of the year. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2026.

The 2019 Extra-Brut Le Mont des Chrétiens (magnum) is laced with hints of apricot, dried flowers, chamomile, spice and a hint of tropical fruit. There's just a touch of reduction, but not enough to be intrusive. I find the 2019 a bit quite reticent today, surprisingly so for the generally exuberant style of the year, but this bottle was also disgorged just a few weeks before my visit. I expect to see more textural richness over time. Dosage is 1.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: February 4, 2026.

The 2015 Brut Nature Les Chênes, 100% Chardonnay, is dense and powerful from the very first taste. Soaring aromatics literally explode from the glass. Vivid and dazzling in its beauty, the 2015 possesses extraordinary intensity in every dimension. Vincent Laval opened this bottle à la volée, but does not expect to add any dosage, so this note should be quite representative of the final commercial release. Chardonnay is rarely this deep, complex or pedigreed.

The NV (2023) Extra-Brut Garennes is a blend of vintages 2023 back to 2013. Soft and open-knit, the Garennes caresses the palate with hints of orchard fruit, chamomile, dried flowers and spice. The lifted, ethereal style is quite attractive. This is the most open-knit of Vincent Laval's new releases. I would give it a bit of aeration. This release was aged for 11 months in French oak, with some lees-stirring. Dosage is 1 gram per liter. Disgorged: November 2025.
