Burgundy
When it comes to the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands tall as one of the most revered and sought-after regions. Renowned for its exceptional terroir and commitment to quality, Burgundy has long captivated enthusiasts with its exquisite and highly prized wines. Today, let us delve into the realm of the best and most expensive wines that Burgundy has to offer, a realm where true wine aficionados can indulge in the pinnacle of winemaking excellence.
At the heart of Burgundy's prestige lie its renowned vineyards, which have garnered global acclaim for their exceptional wines. The names that resonate in the world of Burgundy are Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Armand Rousseau, and Domaine Georges Roumier. These vineyards have become synonymous with greatness, crafting wines that define elegance, complexity, and longevity.
Burgundy's most esteemed wines are crafted from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The region's red wines, made predominantly from Pinot Noir, display a finesse and purity of fruit that are unmatched. Vineyards such as Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, and Richebourg produce red wines that command astronomical prices due to their exceptional quality and limited production.
For white wine enthusiasts, Burgundy's Chardonnay-based wines are a true revelation. Vineyards like Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Meursault showcase the full potential of this noble grape, producing wines of unparalleled richness, depth, and complexity. These whites epitomize the artistry of winemaking, with each sip revealing layers of flavors and a harmonious balance between fruit, minerality, and oak.
In the world of fine wines, Burgundy stands as an epitome of elegance, complexity, and refined craftsmanship. Its best and most expensive wines are a testament to the region's unwavering commitment to excellence, terroir-driven winemaking, and the artistry of the winemakers.

(3x75cl) 2010Vinous (96)
Bright full, medium red. A real wake-up call on the nose, offering sappy black and red cherry fruit aromas complicated by crushed-rock minerality and notes of rose petal and violet; an essence of Burgundy. Then generous and dense but weightless on the palate, and less austere today than the Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos Rognets, showing salty, chewy flavors of cherry, stone, flowers and minerals and conveying a powerful impression of sappiness. Finishes with explosive palate-staining energy and captivating high-pitched perfume. A great vintage for this consistently outstanding premier cru, and in need of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. These 2010s have it all.Inc. TAX€5,993.89 -
Vinous (94-97)
Saturated ruby-red. Aromatic and very pure but restrained on the nose, offering high-pitched aromas of dark raspberry, black cherry, flowers, spices and minerals. Impressively concentrated and dense yet light on its feet, with its very intense flavors of dark fruits, spices and flowers enlivened by saline tension. Almost painful in the middle palate in the early going, this wine finishes with firm but suave tannins and outstanding lingering perfume. Méo did not add SO2 in the fermenter because this wine often has reduction issues. With its fruit of steel, this beauty should enjoy a long life in bottle.Inc. TAX€2,664.84 -

The delicious 2017 Brulées from Méo has classically smoky red and blackberry fruit aromas with a pleasant floral edge and a bit of spice. The texture is surprisingly compact for the vintage, with a tannic grip and reserves of extract that suggest it will age very well. Although it is starting to open now, I suggest another couple of years in the bottle to let it develop. The grapes are from Méo’s nearly three-quarters hectare of ancient vines in this prime location.Inc. TAX€783.73 -

The 2018 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées is brilliant, unfurling in the glass with an exquisite bouquet of sweet red berries, cherries, orange rind, smoked duck and exotic spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and enveloping wine framed by velvety tannins and succulent acids, concluding with a long and youthfully chalky finish. From a parcel planted in the 1930s, I often think that Aux Brûlées is Méo's finest wine; and while I'd give the Cros Parantoux the edge this year, it is a superb effort.Inc. TAX€1,956.84 -
