The is suffused with wonderful purity and nervosité. Yum yum! Whenever I meet Christophe Roumier, I get the impression of a Burgundy superstar in the eye of a storm. There is a cavalcade of visitors yearning to tour his cellars and meet the man...just to look at his barrel-and-a-bit of Musigny would be enough. And Christophe himself? I knew that the 2014 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru would be great when I tasted it from barrel last year...but not this great. It has a wonderful, tensile bouquet that just seems to sparkle. The fruit is so crystalline and laden with energy and mineralité that you almost have to sit down! The palate is surfeit with energy, the fruit perhaps a little darker than in barrel with white pepper, spices towards the almost Richebourg-like finish. The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Goulots was the last to be picked as they wanted to wait for the weather to achieve ripeness (around September 24). The nose is very attractive, with the whole bunch fruit lending freshness and vigor, subtle woodland aromas, perhaps even a hint of mushroom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, masculine and upright with decent structure, "correct" on the finish but precise and detailed. The 2014 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru les Millandes was picked a little earlier just to keep the acidity from the berries that were affected by millerandage. It has a well defined bouquet with light gravel scents infusing the blackberry and briary fruit. This is very correct but also very composed. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly earthy red berry fruit. Intriguing aromas of pear, white peach, flowers, minerals, menthol and white pepper. Pliant and thick but very juicy and fresh; lovely lemony cut (4.4 acidity) gives a light touch to the fruit. Shows strong spine and structure without especially high acidity. Lovely fine-grained wine with class. This vineyard needed a lot of work, noted Gon. Very rich, broad and classically dry, with orchard fruit and spice flavors framed and energized by harmonious acidity. Fat, sweet and creamy in the middle, showing excellent volume for the year but not the verve or thrust of the Vosne villages. The wine's tannins coat the teeth and dry the sides of the tongue. I knew that the 2014 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru would be great when I tasted it from barrel last year...but not this great. It has a wonderful, tensile bouquet that just seems to sparkle. The fruit is so crystalline and laden with energy and mineralité that you almost have to sit down! The palate is surfeit with energy, the fruit perhaps a little darker than in barrel with white pepper, spices towards the almost Richebourg-like finish. Tasting them side-by-side, I would err for this over the Richebourg - it is a magnificent wine from Charles van Canneyt.In Bond€2,840.00 -
