Vinous (90-93)
Pale, bright yellow. Ripe peach, flowers and a leesy complexity on the nose. A bit less rich and fat than the Morgeot but shows sneaky intensity and full ripeness--as well as sound acidity and good cut--to its peach and smoke flavors. Finishes with noteworthy length and lift, and a solid structure for aging.Inc. TAX€178.28 -
Vinous (89-91)
Bright lemon-yellow color. Restrained aromas of mirabelle, yellow flowers and clove. Brisk but not hard, offering a lovely sugar/acid balance to its intense lemon zest and spice flavors. Finishes with good cut but a touch of youthful rigidity. These vines were originally planted in the 1950s but a lot of them have been replaced through the years.Inc. TAX€688.08 -
Wine Advocate (90)
The 2016 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie exhibited a pleasant reduction on the nose, behind which lies pleasing waxy, linseed aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is pretty with a lively entry, hints of peach skin and nectarine, well balanced with good volume on the finish. Drink over the next four or five years. Six barrels produced compared to 19 in 2017!Inc. TAX€147.84 -
Vinous (90)
The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru has a fragrant, chalk dust scented bouquet that opens nicely with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a lightly spiced opening, touches of orange rind and marmalade lending a welcome tanginess. It might not be a long-term Chassagne, though it is thoroughly enjoyable. 14.10% alcohol.Inc. TAX€1,425.36 -
Vinous (92)
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru has a finely tuned nose, the 30% new oak neatly integrated. The palate is well balanced with good depth, honeycomb and orange rind, slightly waxy in texture towards the finish. Good extract here and fine length, this should drink well for 15-20 years.Inc. TAX€1,449.36 -
Vinous (90-92)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru has a fresh, quite linear bouquet with crushed stone and light yellow flower aromas. It just needs a little more intensity. The palate is lightly spiced on the entry with modest weight, yet is cohesive with white pepper and ginger enlivening the finish. This is a delightful, pretty Chassagne-Montrachet.Inc. TAX€158.64 -

The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru, raised in one-third new oak, has a well-defined bouquet with yellow plum, jasmine and light brioche aromas. It will require a couple of years to absorb the wood. The palate is well-balanced with a subtle walnut note on the entry, quite linear in style, with stem ginger veins towards the finish. Impressive length, this should give over a decade's worth of drinking pleasure.Inc. TAX€522.44 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92)
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Maltroye 1er Cru has a "buttoned-down" nose that demands coaxing to reveal its yellow fruit, hazelnut and light orange rind scents. The palate is well balanced and opens up wonderfully with aeration, displaying a touch of orange rind, spice and smokiness on the finish. It's quite mercurial and, to my senses, fascinating.Inc. TAX€662.14 -
(1x75cl) 2018Wine Advocate (93)
Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, white flowers, beeswax and a light touch of reduction that might be derived from this sample bottle's Diam closure, the 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée is medium to full-bodied, layered and muscular. Underpinned by lively acids, this is the most complete and concentrated premier cru in the range this year.Inc. TAX€193.87 -
(1x75cl) 2019Vinous (91)
The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru has quite an intense bouquet although it is missing a little terroir expression at the moment. The palate is rounded and honeyed, one of the richest cuvées but thankfully balanced with acidity, quite nutty towards the finish. Probably more short term than other vintages.Inc. TAX€213.08 -
Vinous (94)
The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru has a very perfumed bouquet with yellow fruit, white peach and pressed white flower aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine salinity, quite linear and reserved at first, yet the intensity is delivered on the back end with a vivacious, stem ginger-tinged finish that leaves the mouth tingling. Superb.Inc. TAX€264.24 -

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru was quite closed on the nose when I tasted it, though I feel there is concentration here. The palate is where that concentration is revealed: quite focused, real depth with a persistent, stem ginger and slightly peachy finish. Excellent.Inc. TAX€212.35 -
(1x75cl) 2022Vinous (93)
Wipe your tears because this is the last vintage of Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru for now; the vines were pulled up after the harvest as production had tumbled to untenable levels, plus there was unacceptable soil erosion. The well-defined bouquet is intense with yellow plum, Mirabelle, crushed stone and wilted white flowers. The palate is very well-balanced with superb tension, focused and energetic with a saline finish. Bowing out in style.Inc. TAX€227.48 -

Vinous - Stephen Tanzer (91-94)
Bright yellow. The nose suggests a wine with terrific inner-mouth tension: yellow peach, white flowers, menthol, minerals and crushed rock. Fatter than the Vergers in the mouth, with a seductive orange zest sweetness throughout, but kept firm and bright by piquant minerality. Quite tight on the long, aromatic back end. More austere than the Vergers, and not showing the early balance of that wine.Inc. TAX€1,106.88 -
Burghound (93)
(Sweet Spot Outstanding) A notably ripe and moderately exotic nose combines notes of pineapple, tangerine, lychee nut and floral, citrus and matchsticks hints. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the intense and much stonier middle weight flavors that also possess even better detail on the notably firm if not really austere finale that delivers superb length. This is excellent and while I am in general not really a fan of exoticism, this manages to work particularly well.Inc. TAX€195.08 -
Vinous (94)
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a minty/aniseed tinged bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. There is a very subtle reduction at play. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, and, again, rather reductive. But, there is plenty of matière in situ. Fine boned with a lightly spiced and reassuringly persistent finish developing more and more salinity with aeration. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.Inc. TAX€888.48 -
Vinous (93)
The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a crisp, more understated bouquet with more earthy overtones that the domaine's other cuvées. The palate is one of the most terroir-expressive from the domaine, very well defined with a lightly spiced finish. This has a real spring in its step.Inc. TAX€959.28 -

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has wonderful terroir expression on the nose, very nicely balanced, touches of lemon verbena, white peach and a light walnut aroma. The palate is very taut and linear, a fine spine of acidity with impressive salinity, especially on the finish. Great length and poise, this may warrant a higher score in the future.Inc. TAX€958.08 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet, not intense, yet focused and gaining clarity with time. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite saline with admirable persistence on the finish. This is worth seeking out.Inc. TAX€169.88 -
Vinous (92)
The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has wonderful delineation and poise on the nose, real frisson, with yellow fruit, egg whites and wild peach. Love it! The palate is very well-balanced with a touch of reduction, elegant in style, perhaps needing more depth and grip on the finish. But this is very suave and nuanced.Inc. TAX€659.28 -
Vinous - Neal Martin (92-94)
The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru has a very harmonious bouquet, fine mineralité and terroir expression and touches of oyster shell infusing the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with a rounded texture. There's a fine silver bead of acidity here, a little richer in style, fanning out marvelously on the finish. This is excellent.Inc. TAX€614.14 -

Vinous (89)
The 2018 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru has a tight and rather recalcitrant bouquet that remains tight-lipped despite rigorous coaxing. The palate, meanwhile, is more open on the entry, offering lemon peel and orange zest, though I would like to see more depth and grip on the rather linear finish. Fine precision here, but it needs a little more matière.Inc. TAX€132.68 -

The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Vergers 1er Cru from vines located on the Saint-Aubin side on shallow soils, has wonderful mineralité on the nose, crushed rock filtering through the citrus fruit.
