The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Village was cropped at a respectable 30hl/ha due to the late pruning in this vineyard. It has a clean and precise bouquet, quite focused, a light reduction at play in the background. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, fresh and apply with orange rind towards the taut, slightly short but fresh finish. Fine.

The 2023 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Blanc comes from 1.5 hectares of vines on shallow soils. It has quite a complex bouquet with linden, orange pith and light waxy aromas that discretely unfold in the glass. The palate is saline and fresh on the entry, well balanced with fine depth, though it perhaps does not quite muster the requisite mineralité on the finish (at the moment). Maybe afford this two or three years in bottle.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru sports quite a bit of reduction on the nose that makes the terroir and fruit profile difficult to read. The palate is well balanced, taut and fresh, with a fine bead of acidity and good depth; quite powerful for a Folatières. Fine bitter lemon notes surface on the finish, which is very sapid and more-ish. A long-term wine but well worth cellaring. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2018 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is still backward and reticent on the nose, gunflint and light smoky aromas gently unfold from the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, a little more weighty than expected with touches of apricot and quince towards the citrus-fresh finish that leaves a residue of spice on the tongue. Excellent.

Vinous (92-94)

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru displays more mineral tension and energy on the nose compared to the Le Referts. It is very focused with wet limestone, apple blossom and a touch of blackcurrant leaf. The palate is well balanced with a touch of white chocolate on the entry, more expressive and deeper than the Les Referts with more tension and terroir expression on the finish. Excellent.

Vinous - Neal Martin (92)

The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru clearly has some reduction on the nose although, unlike some others, this seems proportionate and not fixed. It does not detract from the freshness or delineation. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry. Again, predictably, there is some reduction but it feels complete and full with impressive weight and depth on the finish. Tuck this away for a couple of years - there is promise here. The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Village has a strict, petrichor/wet limestone-scented bouquet, focused but not powerful. The palate is well balanced with a sappy entry, fine depth for a Village Cru and beautifully-judged acidity. A dab of spice enlivens the finish. This is an excellent, citrus-driven Puligny.

The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Village comes from four lieux-dits. It has a lifted nose with green apple, a touch of petrichor and just a small reduction. The palate is well balanced with lovely poise. Touches of noisettes and orange rind build through the harmonious and persistent finish. Excellent.
