A discreet hint of post-bottling SO2 does not detract significantly from the otherwise reserved but attractively fresh and quite spicy aromas of both white and yellow orchard fruit that displays a top note of dried flowers. The concentrated, powerful, mouth coating and beautifully textured big-bodied flavors possess dry extract to burn, all wrapped in an explosive, linear and driving finish. Despite the muscle and punch of the flavors and finish, this is actually very, very undeveloped at this early junction and will need every bit of a decade, and perhaps a few years more, to really arrive at its full majority but it should be more than worth the wait.Inc. Slightly hazy due to a recent stirring of the lees. Highly complex nose combines candied lemon, pineapple, menthol, linden tea, ginger and caramel. Thick and seamless in texture and showing a slightly exotic candied quality, but racy acidity gives sharp relief to the intense orange and lemon zest fruit. Really echoes on the gripping finish, showing a whiplash of citrus and saline flavors. At Boillot they normally make a single, 350-litre barrel of Montrachet, lightly crushing the fruit before pressing in a basket press. The results in 2019 were absolutely beautiful. Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet Clos de Chevalier Grand Cru has a slightly muffled bouquet compared to its peers, needing to muster more precision and mineral expression. There is a touch of phenolic character to the highly complex and exuberantly spicy nose of white peach, citrus confit, acacia blossom, Asian-style tea and just enough wood influence to merit mentioning. The imposingly dense broad-shouldered flavors possess a positively gorgeous mouthfeel thanks to the abundance of sappy dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm acid spine supporting the strikingly persistent finish where the wood telegraphed by the nose reappears. This beauty is very, very backward and I would recommend not touching a bottle for at least ten years. In Bond€5,168.00 -
Wine Advocate (93)
Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet Clos de Chevalier Grand Cru has a slightly muffled bouquet compared to its peers, needing to muster more precision and mineral expression. The palate is fresh on the entry with a smooth and lightly honeyed texture, vanilla and white chocolate notes from the new oak, perhaps a little too generous for a wine of this standing yet undeniably quite delicious. There's just one half-barrel of the 2019 Montrachet Grand Cru, a rich, concentrated and textural wine that evokes honeyed pears, ripe peaches, beeswax and citrus blossom. Full-bodied and muscular, it's a powerful Montrachet in the making. In Bond€4,295.00 -

An exchange enables Jean-Michel Chartron to offer some Montrachet. Pale colour with a light lime touch. The nose is tight and tense as yet ungiving, though on the palate the wine becomes super-sensual thereafter, rather ripe with peach and honeysuckle despite the comparative severity up front. The aftertaste delivers the persistence expected of a grand cru. Tasted: October 2021In Bond€1,135.00 -
