Vinous - Neal Martin (96)The 2021 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru shows some clever whole bunch addition, combining with the mainly red fruit and not obscuring the terroir expression. Classic Pinot Noir/Clos Saint-Denis. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, clean and fresh, marine influence blackberry and raspberry with a liberal sprinkling of sea salt on the sapid finish. This is a seriously fine Clos Saint-Denis. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. |

Vinous (92-94)The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru contains 50% whole bunch and is matured in 30% new oak (Billon and Chassin cooperages). The very cohesive bouquet features brambly red berry fruit, briar, black tea and undergrowth scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a peppery entry, fine acidity and a Morey-like structure toward the finish. While not amazingly long, it is very nicely focused and exudes breeding. |

Burghound (90-93)(from a .35 ha parcel). An overtly floral and quite spicy array of black cherry, earth and warm earth leads to seductive, delicious and caressing medium-bodied flavors that possess ample punch that carries over to the bitter pit fruit and austere finish. This is unusually powerful for La Perri re and should age accordingly. (90-93)/2032+ |

Vinous (92-94)The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin La Perrière 1er Cru, blended with 30% whole bunches, works splendidly on the nose with delineated red berry fruit, crushed stone and light rose petal scents. This is very classic in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, fresh and cohesive, the whole bunches neatly subsumed with quite a lively, satisfying finish. Excellent. |

Wine Advocate (91-93)The 2014 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru les Goulots was the last to be picked as they wanted to wait for the weather to achieve ripeness (around September 24). The nose is very attractive, with the whole bunch fruit lending freshness and vigor, subtle woodland aromas, perhaps even a hint of mushroom. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, masculine and upright with decent structure, "correct" on the finish but precise and detailed. This shows what this vineyard can do in the right hands. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Goulots 1er Cru is 50% whole bunch with 35% new oak (Raymond cooperage). It conveys more fruité on the nose of red currant and cranberry, although I find more terroir expression on the La Perrière this year. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannins, taut and spicy from the oak, and integrated with a grippy finish. Give this 4–5 years in bottle because there is fine matière here. |

Wine Advocate (89-91)The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Jouises Vieilles Vignes includes 25% new oak with 50% to 55% whole bunch. It has a very elegant bouquet, one of the most floral within the Heresztyn-Mazzini range. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, good acidity, very classic in style with ample blackberry and bilberry fruit on the finish, a touch of tobacco and spice lingering on the aftertaste. Fine. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Jouises" Vieilles Vignes is raised in 20% new oak with 50–60% whole bunch. This was quite reduced on the nose and difficult to read. The palate is more open, offering ebullient red fruit, and quite spicy, revealing a liberal sprinkling of black pepper on the finish. Good potential, though it deserves 4–5 years in bottle. |

Wine Advocate (89-91)The 2014 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru les Millandes was picked a little earlier just to keep the acidity from the berries that were affected by millerandage. It has a well defined bouquet with light gravel scents infusing the blackberry and briary fruit. This is very correct but also very composed. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly earthy red berry fruit. There is still some oak to be subsumed, but I think it was a right decision to pick early as the acidity maintains sufficient tension on the slightly foursquare finish. |

Wine Advocate (92-94)Raised in 35% new oak with 55% whole bunch fruit, the 2016 Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru les Millandes has an engaging bouquet with black fruit, wet limestone and sea spray scents. It is beautifully defined and very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly grainy tannin. There is plenty of smoke-tinged, almost flinty black and red fruit with a very harmonious, quite structured finish that feels persistence and satisfying. This is one of the strongest contributions from Heresztyn-Mazzini. |

Vinous (91-93)The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru is another cuvée that includes 100% whole bunch this year. It has a well-defined bouquet, the stemmy element not quite as pronounced as on the Gevrey Champonnet and more integrated with the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, and generous peppery black fruit laced with cedar and white pepper. The grippy finish needs time to abrade its edges. A traditionally cut Morey-Saint-Denis that needs to be consumed with food. Good potential here. |

Vinous (93-95)The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Les Millandes 1er Cru comes from vines over 70 years old and was cropped at 45hl/ha, the first vineyard to be picked in order to moderate alcohol. Containing 100% whole bunch, it has an intense bouquet of pine-needle-infused red and black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, and a little tarry toward the finish. Perhaps the most peppery of the domaine’s wines. I can see this aging beautifully. |

Burghound (89)Here the nose is dominated by smoky reduction and only hints of citrus rind are perceptible so give this some air first. The sleek, precise and intense middle weight flavors brim with minerality that adds a sense of lift to the highly refreshing, very dry and notably more complex finale. This is excellent for what it is and warmly recommended. |

Vinous - Neal Martin (91)The 2023 Mâcon-Chardonnay Clos de la Crochette has one of the best aromatics of the range: crushed stone, sea cave and light Granny Smith scents with good focus. The palate is well balanced with a crisp entry. This has fine weight and density but is more backward and perhaps befits a couple of years in bottle. |

Burghound (88)An even fresher nose freely offers up its array of green apple, plenty of citrus elements and a hint of mineral reduction. The racy, detailed and sleek medium weight flavors are wonderfully refreshing but not quite as complex on the stony, bone-dry and lightly austere finale. A year or two of cellaring should help to add depth. |
