Vinous (88-91)
The 2017 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru is a new wine in the range. Tightly wound and laced with mineral tones, the Mitans has a core of energy that really differentiates it in the lineup. Dark red fruit, lavender, rose petal, wild flowers, mint and spice emerge in the glass, but only with great reluctance. A Burgundy of understatement and power, the 2017 needs time to fully come together, but it is quite promising. The 33% new oak is well-judged.Inc. TAX€609.34 -
Vinous (92)
The 2018 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has a dense and backward bouquet that I suspect has closed down a little since bottling. Dark berry fruit, touches of baking powder and blood orange surface with time. The palate is medium-bodied but tight at the moment with grippy tannins, very pure, quite masculine and almost Pommard-like for a Volnay with a citrus-driven finish. Impressive, but it needs time.Inc. TAX€569.83 -
Vinous (89-91)
Clerget's 2016 Volnay is a wine of notable purity and translucence. Bright red stone fruit and floral notes all lift from this exquisitely beautiful, lilting village-level Volnay endowed with superb finesse. I tasted the 2016 from tank, about two months before bottling. Yields are down a whopping 80%. - Antonio GalloniInc. TAX€298.19 -
Vinous (87-88)
The 2017 Volnay is soft, open-knit and pliant, with lovely red berry fruit and floral character. Lifted, ethereal and gracious, the 2017 will drink nicely upon release.Inc. TAX€776.65 -

(6x75cl) 2021Vinous (89-91)
The 2021 Volnay Village comes from two parcels plus the frost-eviscerated Les Mitans, fully destemmed and matured in used oak. Lively red berry fruit mixed with shucked oyster shells on the nose, this has commendable focus. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannins and fine depth for a Village Cru in this vintage with appreciable length.Inc. TAX€662.08 -
Vinous (91-94)
The 2015 Volnay Santenots is a total rock-star wine. The personality of this site comes through beautifully in an ample, extroverted wine that also clearly has the shoulders to handle all of its natural intensity. Ripe red cherry, smoke, raspberry jam and lavender are some of the many nuances that develop, but above all else, the Santenots is a wine of balance and pedigree. Don't miss it.Inc. TAX€568.08 -
Vinous (90-93)
Clerget's Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru is one of the more overtly ripe wines in the lineup. Kirsch, red raspberries, mint and wild flowers are all given an extra kick of raciness in the Santenots, a wine that really stands out for its nuance, suppleness and flat-out deliciousness.Inc. TAX€468.48 -
Vinous (91-93)
The 2018 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru comes from the lieu-dit of Les Santenots-Dessous and is completely de-stemmed and matured in 20% new oak. It has a slightly earthy and more introspective bouquet compared to Clerget’s other 2018 Volnays, but no less compelling; lovely, pure mulberry aromas almost reluctantly unfurl with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins and a fine line of acidity. Quite strict and linear toward the Pommard-like finish, which delivers wonderful tension and good length. Cellar this for three or four years, because there is great potential.Inc. TAX€463.27 -
(1x75cl) 2020Vinous (90-92)
The 2020 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru contains 20% whole bunch with 20% new oak with zero pigeage, more like a infusion during the maceration. The nose sported a very slight reduction, dark berries, touches of loam and candied orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe, quite grippy towards the finish where I would just like to see a little more tension.Inc. TAX€130.28 -

Vinous (93)
The 2021 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru comprises two barrels instead of 18 barrels, indicating the severity of the frost. No pigeage for this vintage. The bouquet was slightly reduced as expected, the 20% whole bunches lending just a touch of black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity and a little more sinew here, with a fine grip on the finish. Very classy.Inc. TAX€441.97 -
