Combines incredible thickness and volume without a light touch, thanks to penetrating soil-driven minerality. Finishes with an uncanny impression of solidity but no excess weight. The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has the most backward and surly nose of Christophe Perrot-Minot’s Grand Crus, but it just needs a few swirls to reveal enticing raspberry, cranberry, brown spice and slightly ferrous aromas. The mineralité starts to reveal itself with aeration. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, gorgeous pure raspberry preserve notes mixed with blood orange, sea salt and light quince, and marmalade notes toward the succinct finish. The 2016 Charmes Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has a generous bouquet with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and cranberry scents laced with Chinese five spice and crushed flower petal aromas. I appreciate the focus and elegance here. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe red berry fruit, extremely well balanced and restrained (not unlike Denis Bachelet's that I tasted in my prior visit). There is plenty of tension here, and there is a satisfying salinité on the finish that lingers long after the wine has been swallowed. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple, rounded tannins. The concentration is loaded on the back end of this Charmes though I feel that the Griottes has more delineation and nerve.Inc. Seriously dense, rich wine with a rising, palate-staining finish that throws off notes of underbrush, tobacco, iron and spices. Full dark red. Strong smoky minerality on the nose, with raspberry and spice notes emerging with air; less subtle than the Charmes today but more satisfying and expressive. Plush, fat and sweet on the palate, with the dark raspberry, spice, licorice and black pepper flavors currently dominated by saline minerality. Seriously dense, rich wine with a rising, palate-staining finish that throws off notes of underbrush, tobacco, iron and spices. The noble tannins owe largely to the high percentage of millerandé berries. A superb showing for this wonderfully silky wine, which will probably be for drinking after the Charmes.In Bond€1,560.00
