The palate is medium-bodied with layers of pure red and black fruit. Svelte, velvety and utterly seductive, it does not stint on precision and persistence on the white pepper finish. The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Barrières comes from a single 0.70-hectare parcel in the north of the appellation. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. It coheres nicely in the glass and it should give 12 to 15 years' drinking pleasure.Inc. TAX€142.75 -

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc has a complex, quite arresting bouquet with finely tuned dark cherry and raspberry fruit, hints of incense of pressed flowers developing with time. I adore the precision of these aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, notes of blackberry and raspberry preserves, a keen line of acidity and a pleasant touch of bitterness toward the long finish. The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St Marc 1er Cru is showing some reduction on the nose, like many of its NSG compadres. This seems to dissipate with aeration, although the nuance and detail of Gouges's Les Pruliers tasted alongside do not materialize. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a little chewiness on the entry and good grip. There is a firmness here, a little obduracy that should be tamed with bottle age, so give it five years in the cellar, because there is potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.Inc. The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St Marc 1er Cru, which is the domaine's monopole of just under a hectare, contains the same amount of whole bunch fruit as the Clos des Argillières and yet its presence is completely disguised. The fruit here is a little redder on the nose, showing touches of bay leaf and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. This feels quite chalky in texture, not quite as harmonious as the Clos des Argillières, but with more thrust toward the finish. This is another excellent 2017 from Rion.Inc. TAX€514.12 -

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St. Marc 1er Cru is curiously much less expressive on the nose than the Clos des Argillières despite coaxing. Finally, after I am already bloody late for my next appointment, it unfolds with wonderful mineral-rich blue fruit. The palate is clean and very precise, extremely focused, the oak seamlessly integrated and it fans out in splendid fashion on the lightly spiced fashion. The 2021 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos Saint-Marc 1er Cru feels a little gawky at first and takes time to coalesce in the glass. More whole bunch here, though it is in proportion to the fruit concentration. It never really develops in the glass. The palate is coarse on the entry, rigid with bitter red fruit. It just needs more flesh on the finish, which has a slightly acrid note. Not sure about this but instinct tells me that it just requires time to knit together. It doesn't quite click into gear on the nose like the wonderful 2022, rather it is perhaps more discrete with loamy scents percolating through the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a firm grip. Fine tannins and a conspicuous, almost briny marine influence develop toward the finish, lending another dimension. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, notes of blackberry and raspberry preserves, a keen line of acidity and a pleasant touch of bitterness toward the long finish. This seems to dissipate with aeration, although the nuance and detail of Gouges's Les Pruliers tasted alongside do not materialize. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a little chewiness on the entry and good grip. There is a firmness here, a little obduracy that should be tamed with bottle age, so give it five years in the cellar, because there is potential. The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St Marc 1er Cru, which is the domaine's monopole of just under a hectare, contains the same amount of whole bunch fruit as the Clos des Argillières and yet its presence is completely disguised. The fruit here is a little redder on the nose, showing touches of bay leaf and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with insistent grip on the entry. This feels quite chalky in texture, not quite as harmonious as the Clos des Argillières, but with more thrust toward the finish. This is another excellent 2017 from Rion.In Bond€406.00 -

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos St. Marc 1er Cru is curiously much less expressive on the nose than the Clos des Argillières despite coaxing. Finally, after I am already bloody late for my next appointment, it unfolds with wonderful mineral-rich blue fruit. The palate is clean and very precise, extremely focused, the oak seamlessly integrated and it fans out in splendid fashion on the lightly spiced fashion. More whole bunch here, though it is in proportion to the fruit concentration. It never really develops in the glass. The palate is coarse on the entry, rigid with bitter red fruit. It just needs more flesh on the finish, which has a slightly acrid note. Not sure about this but instinct tells me that it just requires time to knit together.
